A few years ago, we took a chance and retired early so we could focus on traveling, spending more time with our families, and volunteering as humanitarian aid workers. We slow travel around the world for about half the year with just our backpacks, living in a new place each month. During the other half of the year, we take road trips in our Honda Pilot microcamper, visit our families, and support people impacted by disasters like wildfires.

We love sharing our adventures in our videos and are happy you’re here!

The Galápagos Islands are beautiful to see but they take some time to get to! To visit this amazing archipelago you first have to fly to mainland Ecuador. From there you go through inspections and pay additional fees to be allowed to fly to the protected islands.

The list of things we needed to do to get here seemed daunting to us at first, but it was actually pretty straightforward in the end. If you’re curious about visiting this amazing place, check out our upcoming videos, starting on Sunday.

We're in the beautiful Mexico City for a month and our list of places to see and things to do keep growing. At the top of our list is exploring the historic downtown center, including Zocalo and El Templo Mayor, visiting the Teotihuacan archeological site, taking a colorful boat called a trajinera along the canals in Xochimilco, walking through Chapultepec forest, visiting as many street markets as we can find, and trying lots of food. Check out our videos coming out through out the month on this amazing city!

Chris and I are leaving Vancouver for the next four and a half months to travel through six different countries and all four seasons. As we begin this next adventure, we must ask ourselves, “Is it bad to travel?”

It seems like there are more and more news articles and social media posts the dark side of travel and how over-tourism negatively impacts environment, population, and livability. But does that mean we shouldn't travel? We really hope not! As we start this trip, we're asking ourselves what our travel impact is, and what we can do to be more friendly travelers and reduce our footprint.

Long-term travel is different than just going away on vacation for a few weeks and the planning we need to do for a long trip takes a bit more effort.

We're heading to the doctor to update our vaccines and get meds like malaria pills, preparing to leave by making sure our home and finances are in order, checking our gear, and packing everything we need for our trip into one backpack each.

One week to go until we’re back on the road!!

Have chipmunks ever invaded your campsite and nested in your vehicle? Chipmunks are so cute when they are just running around, but when they decide to call our tiny camper home, they become really annoying and not-at-all cute. We’ve tried so many things from scaring them off to actually moving campsites, but these little critters are persistent! Our favorite way of keeping nesting chipmunks at bay is to use a bit of peppermint oil. The scent of the oil keeps them from starting to build a home in our car so we can spend the night sleeping instead of chasing them off our SUV camper! Check out our latest YouTube short for some of our tricks for keeping the chipmunks away from our camp site:

Camping can be expensive! Just a simple recreation site with basic picnic tables and pit toilets, like the ones we saw up in Yukon, can run about $20/night. Reservable sites at more popular parks can be $60/night after paying reservation and administration fees. And that’s for the non-electrical sites. Full sites with hookups can be over $70/night. If you’re only going for a few nights, it might not be a big deal, but when you’re on the road for months at a time like we are, that can add up to $600 to $2000+ per month. That seems like a lot of money just for a small, outdoor spot of land.

In our latest video we give some tips and ideas we use to find free campsites. Free camping is available in so many places, gives us a chance to see things from a different perspective, and makes sleeping in our SUV Camper much more affordable on long road trips.
