Well, things have been very slow on the BHV channel since the calendar turned. If you've been keeping track at home, you'll notice I've only uploaded 3 videos in 2025. I have been swamped every single day with college, and as long as I'm at U of I, I do not anticipate that to change anytime soon. However, I am going on spring break next week, so I will hopefully edit more stuff then and get closer to being caught up. No guarantees, though. Editing takes a long time and I have a lot of videos to get through.
Now, let's look into the future. More specifically, summer 2025. I have some big plans once again. Let's answer some questions.
Where are you railfanning this summer? I will be returning to both Rochelle and Galesburg's Railroad Days events. Rochelle's is 5/31-6/1, while Galesburg's is 6/26-6/29. Odds are I will only visit Rochelle on 5/31, and Galesburg on 6/27-6/28. I also plan on going back to Ogden Dunes in early July, likely 7/5. I went on 12/21 (video pending), and it was an awesome time! There will be one other railfanning trip to the suburbs in early August, likely back to West Chicago or the Racetrack. If you have any suggestions, sound off in the comments!
Will there be a big road trip again? Actually, two. I am on the UIUC RST 180 'Hall of Fame Tour' across the northeast, occurring on May 19-30. Destinations include Cleveland, Niagara Falls, Lake Placid, Philadelphia, Canton and Indianapolis. Also, my family is planning a road trip to Colorado, likely centered around Denver. More details to be revealed later.
What about sports? I have plans to go to 4 MLB games this spring and summer. The list, tentatively, looks like this: 4/15, Athletics vs. White Sox 5/27, Braves vs. Phillies 6/21, Diamondbacks vs. Rockies (tentative) 7/19, Red Sox vs. Cubs (tentative)
Return of roller coaster content? My university's coaster enthusiast club is planning a trip to either Kings Island or Six Flags St. Louis. Exact date is still TBA, but it'll likely be in mid-late April. I also plan on returning to Six Flags Great America to ride the new Wrath of Rakshasa dive coaster, as well as my first ever visit to Indiana Beach. I am very excited to do all that!
Overall, I have big plans, and I hope that I can finally get caught up on all the content that you guys have been waiting for and deserve to see.
Well, from once per week to spontaneous uploads for a while.
I have realized that this year in college is going to be much more difficult for me to manage. I have so much more on my plate, and keeping up with an upload schedule, even 1x/week, is not sustainable with how many obligations I have this year.
I'm deeply sorry that it has come to this, but I may be away from YouTube for some time. I need to focus on furthering my education and career in journalism and trying to keep up with an upload schedule while doing that, looking and applying for jobs, and ensuring I can maintain friendships is just impossible.
Keep in mind that these videos can take anywhere between 1 and 3 hours to edit. Even railfanning videos take a while to edit and render when you factor in designing the graphics. Same with EAS. I don't have enough time to do that. Not even close.
Something had to be set aside. It happened to be YouTube.
I'll probably still be posting short clips such as live Illini touchdowns and maybe a bigger upload once in a while, but most projects are going to have to be set aside for a while.
I hope you understand. I love you all, and I thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart, for all the support over the years.
I still don't think I've fully processed this, and I don't think I ever will... I'm filled with grief and rage. Two young men. Gone way too soon.
Johnny Gaudreau, a budding star, such a dazzling player on the ice, and an even better human being off the ice. One of the great players in the NHL.
Matthew Gaudreau, a young, up and coming player in professional hockey, and another beloved human off the ice as well.
They were just 31 and 29.
Johnny leaves behind a wife and two young kids. Matthew leaves behind his wife, who is pregnant with their first child.
Katie Gaudreau, their sister, was supposed to get married this weekend. What was supposed to be a weekend full of elation and joy for the Gaudreau's and everyone who knew and was close to them has turned tragic.
All because of one selfish, senseless man, who thought it was a good idea to get behind the wheel and drive after drinking (reportedly) 5-6 beers, and pass a car by driving on the shoulder (the brothers were biking there).
Rest easy, Johnny and Matthew. The hockey world misses you dearly, and most importantly, your family grieves for your untimely loss.
With much love, -BHV
p.s. Let this be a lesson. If you are under the influence, get a ride. Whether that's a family member, a friend, a cab, an Uber, a Lyft, I don't care. Just don't drive impaired. Please. I'd rather spend $30+ on an Uber than try to drive under the influence and put lives at risk.
I've said it many times, so this probably goes without saying: Starting today, this channel is officially reverting to a 1x/week upload schedule, with one video posting every Friday only. I am also pushing the upload time back to 4:15 PM CT (originally 1:20). This is for the best, as college has restarted for me, and going to a smaller schedule is what will help me remain focused on school, work, and whatever else, while still providing content to you guys. I remain committed to this channel for the foreseeable future.
I had to re-private my upload for today since I needed to check something. My mom had narration at points in the video, so I am just doublechecking with her to make sure she's fine with it. I do recall her saying she was okay with it, but checking doesn't hurt.
