I was recently at the Wave Pool in Richmond Hill AKA the Lois Hancey Aquatic Centre with my camp,
This 1991 OTIS Series 1 has been Modernized; presumably last year. And it’s a pretty interesting mod too, the elevator utilizes MAD BS Moon button fixtures, Except the Door Open and Close Buttons, which have Dual Functions. Besides opening and closing the door, they also are used as “YES”, and “NO” Buttons, Which is beneficial for the hearing impaired to communicate with the other end of the emergency phone line.
What I find interesting is the elevator has Two Cameras in the rear corners of the ceiling, both serve a different purpose. One is tied into the Building’s CCTV system, and the other is used for the Two-Way Communication system.
Another intriguing thing about this elevator, it seems to have the ThyssenKrupp Northern Chime box, even though ThyssenKrupp Northern hasn’t been a thing since 2017. I assume MAD decided to carry it on, and no this was not a TKE Mod, in fact I have no guesses who did the mod.
But the Wave pool was closed for quite some time after the Pandemic, Until the summer of 2024 as a matter of fact. Given the time frame I was already assuming they modded this thing. It runs pretty well, and the cab looks a lot nicer than the Series 1 did, as that just had Black Wall panels and a Flourescent lit Drop Ceiling.
One year ago today we lost one of Canada’s most popular museums, the Ontario Science Centre. It has been neglected for about 2 years prior to closing on 06/21/2024, I was heading home when I heard the news, and I was heartbroken.
Architect Raymond Moriyama has been rolling in his grave ever since. This of course is what happens when you vote Conservative…. Doug Ford is the reason this Marvel closed…..
The buildings have sat abandoned ever since, Demolition has still not been made official..
This old CEE elevator outside the UP Express terminal at Union station which I have sadly never got a video of is sadly being Modernized. I’m gonna have to check up on this in the near future, MontgomeryKONE is NOT doing the mod, it’s just the barrier..
It has been brought to my attention by a viewer that these Gorgeous OTIS elevators at the Fairmont Royal York, are getting upgraded to Destination Dispatch! Another anonymous viewer told me that OTIS is doing the mod, assuming it’s gonna be a Compass360 mod as well.
In my opinion this would actually help with the hotel’s elevator system given that cars 1 and 2 only serve up to level 15, and cars 9 and 10 are the only ones going up to 19. I really hope they keep the cabs the way they are, otherwise it pretty much ruins the historic theming to the hotel.
Good afternoon everyone, hope everyone’s enjoying May so far. Unfortunately I will not be contributing to national train day (This Saturday the 10th) due to other commitments I have to prioritize. I will continue posting train videos soon!
Don’t worry, I didn’t forget about the Finale of season 4 for Railfanning In Autumn. I’ve been crazy busy lately, so hopefully I’ll get to work on it when I get a chance. Stay tuned!
This wave pool is in dire need for upgrades, I was in here when the waves suddenly stopped, the blowers were still running, the air valves were still open, pushing water out of the caissons, there were air bubbles coming from the wave caisson/chambers.
The blowers do not shut off at all.. The controller of the wave pool didn’t detect any problems, the buzzer kept going off, no waves were generated. I got out of the pool, I asked someone to take a look at it, and then when I changed, I walked back just as the warning buzzer went. And the valves that allow and block the air from the blowers into the chamber started to work properly again.
This wave machine is original to this park (Wet N’ Wild Toronto) straight out of 1986, what is not so energy friendly is the fact that the blowers do not turn off when the waves are off, the valves simply close….. When the malfunction occurred the valves were open… pushing water out of the caissons, and allowing air to escape through the caisson grates into the pool..
This wave machine is surely showing it’s age, and it seems about time for an upgrade.
