What are the chances that exactly 15 years after kifo cha Prof. Wangari Maathai, kutakuwa na collective inaitwa Too Early For Birds staging a rerun of its successful production kumhusu?
Only “serendipitously,” as head writer Abigail Arunga alisema, during the rerun press conference last week.
The first TEFB Wangari Maathai edition ran between April 10th na 12th at Jain Bhavan; the rerun ni between September 25th na 27th at the same venue.
Uko na ticko? Ulienda ya kwanza?

After kusikia album mpya ya Akoth Jumadi, ‘BARUA ZA UNGUJA VOL. 1’, at Zahabu, rooftop ya The Mall, nilijipata basement.
Sikuwa sure about my attendance, but thanks to Sisian’s generosity, nili-experience Nyokabi Kariũki Live at The Mist.
It was a farewell show for the composer and sound artist, who did the first Nyokabi Kariũki live at The Mist on Sunday, October 20, 2024. Hii ya August 8th ilikuwa kwaheri kabla kuenda Netherlands for her Master’s in Music Composition.
Kimina na Unjust took us to the abstract and distorted; naisiS na Ng’at Maler took us to the eclectic and vibrant.
Alipokuja stage, for almost one hour, Nyokabi (@nkariukimusic) engrossed us in a world of sound, feeling, reflection, na virtuosity.

Thursday, September 29, 2022, ndio Akoth Jumadi (@AkothJumadi) alifanya launch ya debut album yake, 𝘠𝘰 𝘕𝘪 𝘒𝘢, at Unseen Nairobi.
Saturday, August 8, 2026, almost four years later, she hosted a listening for her sophomore album, 𝘉𝘈𝘙𝘜𝘈 𝘡𝘈 𝘜𝘕𝘎𝘜𝘑𝘈 𝘝𝘖𝘓. 1.
As I sat at the front row, kwa hizo wooden benches za Zahabu, and internalised the environment, it hit me… Both events zimekuwa kwa open spaces—rooftops, to be specific.
That lively night, tuliskia the new music as Jumadi relayed the stories behind the songs – vile the island ime-shape hii album.
𝘉𝘈𝘙𝘜𝘈 𝘡𝘈 𝘜𝘕𝘎𝘜𝘑𝘈 𝘝𝘖𝘓. 1 ilitoka August 13.
Umeiskiza?

Acclaimed photographer Thandiwe Muriu (@thandiwemuriu6681) had an artist talk and book signing event last Saturday at the Circle Art Gallery.
Hizi talks ni rare, so I’m glad I witnessed one. Danda Jaroljmek (Circle Art founder) moderated the conversation.
Tulijua more kuhusu Thandiwe’s journey na philosophy, the process behind her bold, eye-catching portraits, vile kazi yake huchanganua identity na historia, and why home and community matter to her.
Recap ya the full experience iko kwa blog.
