Does anyone ever have those days when you wonder when it’s a good time to call it quits and retire from the sport? It depends on each of our motivations. Is it OK to just play for fun or is it not worth it to keep going, while acknowledging the inevitable evidence of slowing down. I’m stuck somewhere in between that. For being in my later 40s, there’s some things I got better at the past few years but my drive isn’t what it was 20 years ago. There’s no real answer. To each their own. I’ll continue for now for the love of the game. Also it’s because I don’t know how I’ll handle the end.
I might go to Galveston once a year to play a tournament. It’s farther than several other courts and the conditions are usually less than ideal. The wind is unpredictable and the sand doesn’t take much to saturate (hope for no rain leading up to the tourney). At least we were grateful for an overcast day. Regardless of the ridiculously early day, the tournament always runs fast and you have the rest of the day to enjoy what this town has to offer! Things to note, we were part of an unsuccessful double block and a pass blew over my head to the point that I gave up on attempting to hand set and instead caught the ball. Should I have even tried? Let’s call it a learning experience 🤣🤦🏻♀️🤭
My last morning in California: Huntington, Coronado, and Hermosa. Being here is therapeutic for me and I always have a sliver of melancholy when I leave. It feels everything is unreal and merely only a fantasy. Sitting here during breakfast reflecting on these past few days, I had an agenda and I achieved what I planned. Actually, my goals were exceeded well beyond my expectations. The backlog is real but I’ll be putting more content here as well as on my other social media accounts. Back to Texas where we don’t play on a beach but the sand is still nice. Leaving La La Land for now, until next time ☺️
