The History Trip

The last few weeks have provided the opportunity to bring some exciting new content to the channel. In the Science-History and Ancient History space we have added three full-length documentaries that comprised a series called Ancient Skies we made for PBS in the US and ZDF Studios in Germany, tracing the story of how humankind has interpreted, explored and made use of what we could see in the heavens: https://youtu.be/ToATYsmPj4s and https://youtu.be/-uSHLUq750k and https://youtu.be/rcWjAk37GCk.

From prehistoric people figuring out how to build a calendar by observing the movements of the sun, moon and stars to the big Bang Theory of the early C20th, these videos unpack a fascinating journey of wonder, ingenuity and discovery.

Meanwhile we added some great full-length documentaries to our WW2 library for the Ardennes campaign of December 1944, including an overview of the Battle of the Bulge https://youtu.be/D8XKpZ8ohoU and a documentary detailing the heroic defence of Bastogne by the 101st Airborne and others: https://youtu.be/n5wg_CnvplA. This builds on the 101st Airborne story that's proved really popular on the channel, and is now topped off with an extended interview with Ed Shames, who at his passing was the last surviving commissioned office of the famous Easy Company https://youtu.be/doxf0iwVxw8.

On another front you can now find the thrilling tale of Operation Gunnerside, the daring raid on the Nazis heavy water production facility in Norway that was the inspiration for the famous Kirk Douglas movie, The heroes of Telemark https://youtu.be/EgKIE9edG6A.

Finally, from our treasure trove of interviews with WW2 combat veterans, we have added an extended anecdote from Jim Kelly, Royal Marine Commando, whose warmth and humour shine through as he relates the tale of a chaotic and dangerous firefight that took place on D-Day https://youtu.be/QezkFHtd0vo.

Big thanks to all our viewers and subscribers who have made The History Trip a destination, and we looks forward to bringing you more exciting and well-told historical stories throughout 2026 and beyond!

The History Trip

Today is Veterans Day, Remembrance Day, or Armistice Day, depending where you live. The History Trip offers a wealth of professionally made documentary content for those who want to know more about what some of those who fought in the Second World War experienced, suffered and achieved, and why we should carry on remembering them, and all those who have served and serve still.

We are custodians of a wonderful collection of interviews with Allied veterans from US, UK and Canada, and clips from these feature in many of our videos - with many more to come.

We have put some of the most memorable into a Playlist on our channel titled Veterans Day. Here you will find three veterans whose testimony always moves us, all of whom were on Omaha Beach on D-Day. there are extended videos featuring Hal Baumgarten of the 29th Infantry Division and Harley Reynolds and Bill Ryan of the 1st Infantry Division, together with a short for each. Most recently added is the beautiful and tearful moment when Harley Reynolds, a veteran who had served in North Africa and Sicily before taking part in D-Day and Operation Overlord, recalls his final homecoming at the end of the war.

These interviews were filmed in 2011, and none of the men featured are still with us.

Enjoy hearing from the men who were there, and remember.

The History Trip

This September The History Trip is 3 months old! Thanks to all of those who have stopped by to watch our videos, and we hope we can bring you more thrilling and thought-provoking historical entertainment in the coming months and years.

It's now time for a bit of housekeeping to implement some of the lessons and viewer feedback we have had. This means that while we continue to bring new content to the channel we will be reloading some of the existing content. A key issue is that our masters don't normally have non-English voices subtitled on screen and you have to have Closed Captions activated to get the translation. So, as most of our audience is from English speaking world, we have burnt in subtitles to the German veterans who feature in our Battles for Europe videos. New versions of the films on D-Day, Battle for Caen and Normandy Breakout will be uploaded in the coming days, and as more videos from the same series are uploaded, starting with Operation Market Garden, the real story of A Bridge Too Far, they will also have been revised. Look out for the new release this weekend!

The History Trip

This week our History Trip takes us on a journey much further back in time, to launch our Ancient History season with Pharaoh's Secret, a full-length blue chip documentary we made as part of a series, Mummies Alive. Each week we will drop a new episode, each telling the story of a remarkably well preserved ancient body, and forensically reconstructing their final moments, with the help of top experts, virtual autopsy technology and some beautiful CGI (no AI involved!). The first film goes live at midday UK time, 7am EST on Thursday 17th July. Hope you enjoy!
