My name is Jay and I'm from the UK. I create videos exploring the global history of Black people in Britain, and how colonialism still shapes our world.
I also have buymeacoffee and Patreon, where I occasionally upload exclusive content

If the video is less than 10 minutes long, do you still want to see it on YouTube or would you prefer it to stay on TikTok?

Been waiting for this one ever since @TheStorytellerAJ asked to interview me for it, what a fantastic video! He approaches the divide between the African and Caribbean communities (in London especially) from an angle I’ve not really seen recently; most current analysis emphasises class, but he digs into the British media’s role in fanning the flames between the two both historically and in the present day.
Give it a watch! Thank you for letting me join in!

Hey people! Quick check in/update - I have NOT abandoned YouTube, but in the meantime I've been finding it easier doing stuff on TikTok. Here's an example of something I did a little while ago. If you're on there, you can find me at www.tiktok.com/@hyphenateduk 🤎

Hey everyone 🤎
I've been quiet these past few months for a number of reasons. Much of it has been due to mental health issues, and also because I've been focused on the genocides in 🇵🇸🇨🇩🇸🇩 Seeing innocent people die and be displaced because of white supremacy, colonialism and imperialism live on TikTok and Twitter has had a profound impact on my psyche and also my priorities in everything I've been doing recently.
However, I am definitely still here and still working on content. I feature as a guest on the second episode of a brand new podcast, hosted by Marianne Sunshine and joined by the founder of Pardna app Paul Henriques, where we discuss generational wealth among Black people in the UK among other topics. Please do have a look and show some love!
In the meantime, watch this space for a new video coming soon. 🫶🏽

🇯🇲Today is the 61st anniversary of Jamaica gaining its independence from Britain. “Out of many, one people”…? Not quite. Please check out Jamaican creator @News2meja as she breaks down the realities of the racial and class hierarchy in “independent” Jamaica with her quick video on the 21 Families.

Probably one of the best pieces I've seen explaining the need for trigger warnings and what they actually are. The way @KaiAfterKai approaches this topic is incredibly thoughtful and holds no punches while never forgetting the empathy. I've been meaning to recommend their stuff for a while now, so if you're on the look out for another Black British creator to follow, I can't recommend highly enough!

Really excited to share this conversation I had a few months ago with @BotheredBoy where we discuss the messed up colonial histories of Britain 🇬🇧 and Canada 🇨🇦, both shared and distinct. Canada is NOT innocent - don't ever let 'em forget!
