The mission of Unity Productions Foundation (UPF) is to counter bigotry and create peace through the media. We produce films that tell compelling stories for television, online viewing, and theatrical release. These films are part of long-term educational campaigns aimed at increasing religious and cultural pluralism, especially among Muslims and other faiths.

Since 1999, over 200 million people have viewed our films on dozens of platforms including Amazon, PBS, ABC, National Geographic and many others. In 2017, we were nominated for an Emmy for The Sultan and the Saint, and we have produced over 12 PBS documentary films that have won numerous film festival awards. We partner with prominent Jewish, Muslim, Christian and interfaith groups to run dialogues and educational programs around our films.

We work towards a future where Islam and Muslims are understood in a wider social context and where Muslims are part of the modern social fabric.

“Prince Among Slaves,” a 1-hour docudrama narrated by Mos Def, tells the astonishing true story of Abdul Rahman, an African Muslim prince who was captured in battle, sold into slavery, and endured 40 years of bondage in Mississippi before a twist of fate revealed his royal identity. This gripping documentary, traces his incredible journey from a life of privilege in West Africa to the brutal reality of American slavery—and ultimately, to an international campaign for his freedom that shook the foundations of race, religion, and power in early America. A tale of resilience, dignity, and the enduring human spirit, Prince Among Slaves is as cinematic as it is historically profound.
