Hey everyone,
Today Jerma spoke with chat for over four hours, and one of the topics was taking control of the YouTube space. He wants his content under an official umbrella with his own team, especially with where the internet and AI are headed over the next few years. During that discussion he specifically mentioned channels like this one, and I want to respect his wishes completely. So I'm letting you know that Jerma Long Edits is coming to an end.
I want to be clear that I'm not upset about any of this. His team actually reached out to me over a year ago now, and then after that I never heard anything back, so I just decided to keep going on my own. Now that he's speaking on what he wants, it feels like it's the right time to step aside.
I started this channel because I just like hearing the guy talk, without missing any of it, but I didn't want the downtime. The edits I posted here were literally just the versions I made for myself to watch. I figured other people would want the same thing, and it turns out a lot of you did. From there it's been fun to get to watch his streams, put these togehter, and to read your comments. I know a lot of people here still prefer these types of edits, and I hope an endorsed editor can take up the reins at some point!
It has also sucked to see channels like EditorAndy get hit by YouTube. They clearly loved this stuff and they deserved better.
Anyways, thanks to everyone who watched over the past 18 months, I genuinely had a great time doing this. Jerma has a lot of great streams coming up, and I know I'll be watching.

J: twitch has such a wacked out system for monetization at this point, they are shooting themselves in the foot to save their other leg

J: twitch takes 70% of ad revenue from everyone unless you run 3 min of ads an hour, so already streamers are annoyed by that, so its this convoluted system where if ads are on the stream, which you cant turn off, you should run 3-5 min an hour to MAKE SURE twitch doesnt get most of it, its a bizarre solution
J: like if ads are here, do i want twitch to get most of it, no
J: someone talked about how much money it costs twitch to show 1440p streams
[I thought the default split was 50:50, and Partner Plus moved it to 70:30 in the streamers favor?]
J: yea thats subs, the ad system is where they are trying to make the money

J: i wonder what the end game is for twitch, because every monetization strategy has been bad, and it costs this much money to show streams in the first place, amazon can just keep it around as a loss leader i guess, but
J: twitch wanted to be a "tech service" not a media comapny and thats where i think they dropped the ball

J: i can run up to 22 min of ads an hour, i dont even know why thats an option

J: its really difficult, ive left a lot of money on the table, when i look at it and count what it could have been it def feels a certain way, back in 2022-2023 i could have made 10x more money

J: and we were doing that alone, it was like 8 people total, no company, no massive brand or group to help us

Jerma985: the idea is on brbs, or whenever i wanna throw it up for a while, there will be a coin pusher with tokens or crystlas in it, channel points can get spent to put coins in the machine, and itll operate like any other arcade pusher, there will be toys in it and little pieces of paper that could be "play minecraft for 1 hour right now"
Jerma985: I dont care about the discovery part, but if i were to run ads again for any reason it would probably be way less, but ehh, i really wanted to do this last year

Jerma985: and i couldnt close the deal on a lot of it, a bunch of stuff fell flat due to not having the resources
Jerma985: im not even logged in, i havnt logged in since like 2023 or something
Jerma985: Heres the issue, those kinds of shows just blow money, no one gets an ROI, and no one wants to pay for them because of it, sposnors make up a fraction of whats needed most of the time, which requires more sponsors, which requires more ad space/time, which fucks up the shows pacing, which takes away from the whole thing
Jerma985: and to be fair, doign a big crazy thing thats 2-3-4-500+k is alot of money, its a big commitment from whoever
Jerma985: i was "in talks" with twitch and other platforms a few years ago, but nothing came from it, lots of meetings and other bs that didnt really go anywhere
Jerma985: but we are back to basics now, i prefer it that way honestly
Jerma985: im unbelievably lucky to be remotely in the position i have been
Jerma985: but i wanted to eject people into space, fucked up i wasnt able to do that
Jerma985: theres 1-2 more bigger streams id liek to do, maybe, but im cool with just doing what im doin now

Jerma985: ill look into all this kind of stuff, i think im gonna just eat the issue though, and just turn on casino tags when its on stream
Jerma985: the entire sega cd in box collection is probably like 2-3000 dollars minus 5 rare games

Jerma985: but yea, the last week or 2 been drinking these good medical grade meal replacements, scrambled eggs, toast, olive oil, avocado, its been working
Jerma985: these kate farms shakes have 500 calories, and legit everything else, all 27 essentialls, plus the other food i eat, its been supplementing like 1000+ calories a day
Jerma985: im an Egg master at this point, its something im tolerating very well for the last few weeks

Jerma985: depends, between 1-3, im using them as a supplement essentially, so i try to eat a few small solid meals a day and then fill in the blanks with these
Jerma985: Huel and some of the others were too much for me, boost ensure, huel, they were tearing me apart down there. these are formulated for tolerance
Jerma985: not a long term solution, but it came in in the clutch big time the last 2-3 weeks
