Celtic transfer news, and this one has come completely out of nowhere.

Celtic now appear to be closing in on the signing of Parma midfielder Oliver Sørensen.

The news was first reported this morning by respected Danish transfer journalist Farzam Abolhosseini, and Fabrizio Romano has since backed up the report.

The 24-year-old Danish midfielder is currently completing his Celtic medical ahead of a season-long loan from Parma, with an option to buy included in the agreement.

Assuming the medical goes smoothly, the final paperwork and signatures should be all that remains before the deal is officially completed.

But who exactly is Celtic bringing in?

Sørensen stands around 6ft tall, is left-footed, and can play in a number of different midfield roles.

One thing in particular really stands out when you look at his profile:

This guy can run.

During the 2023/24 campaign with FC Midtjylland, Sørensen registered 649 sprints, the most of any player in the Danish Superliga.

He also topped the league for high-speed running, covering more than 42 kilometres at high intensity.

His performances were recognised by Midtjylland, who named him their Player of the Year that season.

He then produced another impressive campaign in 2024/25, scoring nine league goals and providing three assists from midfield.

That form eventually earned him a move to Serie A, with Parma bringing him to Italy last summer.

Sørensen went on to make 34 Serie A appearances during his first season in Italy.

Before making the move away from Denmark, he had already played 132 times for Midtjylland, scoring 16 goals and registering 13 assists.

At international level, he has represented Denmark through the youth ranks, including 15 appearances and six goals for the U21 side.

There's European experience on his CV as well.

During his time with Midtjylland, Sørensen featured in Champions League qualifiers, while also playing in the Europa League and Conference League.

He was also part of two Danish championship-winning squads.

Interestingly, Sørensen has previously described himself as a midfielder capable of playing all three central midfield positions.

At 24 years of age, he's also entering a period of his career where there should still be plenty of room for further development.

And personally, I really like the way Celtic have structured this deal.

Parma only made a sizeable investment in Sørensen twelve months ago, so Celtic potentially get an entire season to properly assess him.

He'll have the opportunity to experience Scottish football, European competition and the pressure that comes with playing for Celtic before the club decides whether to make the move permanent.

At the moment, though, the exact figure attached to the purchase option hasn't been confirmed, so there's no reason to speculate or throw out a number.

The medical is underway.

The loan agreement is in place, with an option to buy.

And now Fabrizio Romano has given the deal his approval.
