On this day in 1896 the Glasgow subway opened to the public the subway first debuted with a simple red paint scheme before receiving custom built trains by metro cammel in the 1980s in a new "clockwork orange" paint scheme these trains were retired after 44 years of service and were replaced by new driverless trains from stadler rail in mid 2024.

The Glasgow subway remains the 3rd oldest subway in the world at 129 years old
