NICE TRY, HACKER!
So I'm in a much better place today now that I have my account back, and I've changed the password to PASSWORD123 so nobody will guess it. Sneaky, eh?
Today I received an email from YouTube saying my request to monetize my channel has been declined. Odd, since I did not request it... so that's what happened yesterday. Some guy (possibly in Russia, or using a VPN to pretend to be there) hacked my account and immediately tried to monetize my YouTube channel, probably thinking if it got monetized that he could get all of the money made from it. HA! Little did he know that they demonetized me recently already! So if that was his main reason for hacking me, it was a lost cause - even if I didn't get my account back.
Of course, it would still have destroyed a huge portion of my work, research, files, logins to other sites, etc., so I am VERY fortunate to have gotten the account back. I just find it humorous to think that was the main reason they hacked me.
So... today I signed up for additional protection on Google, changed my password, set up 2-factor authentication (which I thought I had already done, but apparently had not done correctly before), and I went in and changed the login email I use for NUMEROUS sites so this won't happen again if I were to lose my Google account. What a stressful 24-hours this has been!
I was so stressed out yesterday even AFTER getting the account back that I went to bed six hours earlier than usual, and stayed in bed for 15 hours. But I'm awake now, in a much mental space, and feeling a heckuva lot better about moving forward.
