Editing down 3+ hours of theological, existential, and narratological discussion on the first half of The Brothers Karamazov into something coherent and enjoyable, with a myriad of technical difficulties.

Still, life is good. Episode 1 of 2 on Dostoevsky’s final novel coming soon.

"The Grand Inquisitor” chapter is an examination of humanity’s eternal struggle: the clash between the raw demands of freedom and the seductive ease of submission.

Dostoevsky unveils an unassailable truth: most people recoil from the burden of free will, eagerly trading it for the hollow assurances of security and sustenance.

It is seems to be an indictment of the notion that faith can thrive under extreme power, exposing the contradictions embedded in our nature that we proclaim a love for liberty yet tremble at its inevitable uncertainties.

This pursuit of truth requires the courage to forsake comforting illusions, and we must decide whether we dare to embrace it.

Well…this is my first read. Perhaps more will make itself known upon a second read.

For our second book of Season 3, we are reading Light Years by James Salter. Join us over the next few weeks as we read this meditation on the passage of time and a view into tender intimacies of a family's life, all in prose as delicate and enduring as the light of our distant star passing through a bedroom window on a chilly morning.

Have you read it? What do you think?

Reading of José Arcadio Buendia's final days fills me with melancholy. Márquez brings a pathos to his deeply flawed characters that stirs something beautiful, sad, human, recognizable, and true. And then, this, the patriarch of Macondo gets his send off:
