THE BALLAD OF BIRBSVILLE

Cockatoos have conversations
About wild birbifications
Sitting here, squawking there
And spreading seed everywhere...

Beaks that pierce shells and pits,
Crests where sunshine never wilts,
Feathers that are made of cloud,
And a screeching that is loud.

Lovely birbs -- perfect mayhem
Cover the Man who knows them:
On his shoulder and by his ear,
They are happy when he's near.

On the ground, doing their job,
Bush turkeys prance and hobnob:
Wattles dangling, hunger new,
They are the wild clean-up crew.

Other beauties often stop
Where JimBirb has set up shop:
Lorikeets and sweet corellas
Bring the rain but no umbrellas.

And so is life in Australia,
Where discovery knows no failure:
Creatures of fear and of grace
Exist in no other place.

Thanks to all for your support. I ordered a bag of "normal" birb seed and a bag of the "gold-plated" stuff.

I woke up to see a delivery notification. I opened the app and then saw one bag ended up in Victoria, 870km away! Murphy says it will be the expensive one...

G'day all. Here's some photos from 2 and 3 years ago. I'd totally forgotten about the corella in the bucket!

After some thought, I decided I should share my health update with our wonderful birby community.

Many of you would know that I have a bunch of medical issues originating from toxic materials exposure in a Govt lab, and my medical retirement on a TPI pension, coming on 11 years ago.

There's been many twists and turns, but I'm still going. I don't intend to kick the (Bob's?) bucket anytime soon.

I've just had a couple of appointments with a haematologist, and she's found a couple of things that would account for a lot of issues. On top of my other "stuff" I have some immunoglobulin levels that are low and / or effectively zero (CVID). I'm being referred to a Clinical Immunologist clinic. Treatment is typically a plasma IV infusion once a month, for life.
