Last week I posted a short of a mystery tool etching in acid. Well, here's the finished piece. Wrought Iron and 1075 steel. My first woodworking chisel, so it's not perfect, but it was a great learning experience. I'm happy with it. Handle is made out of walnut (my favorite wood), wrought from who-knows-what and 1075 I had laying around.
Yes, I know my hands are dirty. If my hands aren't at least a little dirty after being in the shop, I haven't done enough work.
New workbench for the shop. Finally have something to mount the leg vise I got back in April on. Not much of a woodworker but it's fun to make something out of wood rather than metal. Shop dog in training enjoyed the wood shavings.
Everything got a nice coat of boiled linseed oil after I was done.
Blacksmiths and prospective Blacksmiths, How do you feel about ABANA's National Curriculum?
As for my opinion on it, I think it's a great way to build your skills as a Blacksmith and is well worth doing. I'm a level II Blacksmith and it has challenged me in ways I didn't expect and has definitely made me a better smith.
