Van Halen officially announced Tokyo Dome Live in Concert on February 5, 2015, following months of fan speculation and a leak just days earlier. Released March 31, 2015, the album became the band’s first live record with original frontman David Lee Roth and bassist Wolfgang Van Halen, capturing the group on their A Different Kind of Truth tour in front of a massive Tokyo Dome crowd.

The setlist spans every Roth-era Van Halen album, from the 1978 debut through 2012’s A Different Kind of Truth, mixing early classics like “Runnin’ with the Devil,” “Unchained,” and “Panama” with newer tracks such as “Tattoo” and “She’s the Woman.” While the release was celebrated as a major reunion-era document, it also drew criticism in some circles for Roth’s live vocal performance.

According to Eddie Van Halen, the band first considered remixing early pre-fame demos, but the original tapes couldn’t be located. They then explored releasing vintage club recordings, only to find the sound quality unusable. Instead, the band recorded every show on the 2012–2013 tour via Pro Tools, and Roth ultimately chose the Tokyo Dome performance as the official live release.

The album’s cover art updates Cassandre’s classic 1935 painting of the SS Normandie, tying a vintage visual style to a modern live document of the band. Tokyo Dome Live in Concert would also go on to be the final Van Halen album released during Eddie Van Halen’s lifetime, making it a significant closing chapter in the band’s discography.

Featuring David Lee Roth, Eddie Van Halen, Wolfgang Van Halen, and Alex Van Halen, the album stands as a snapshot of Van Halen’s late-era live sound and a full-career celebration of the Roth catalog.

Released in March 1986, 5150 was the first of four albums recorded with Sammy Hagar on lead vocals. To mark this milestone, an expanded anniversary edition is on the way, and it’s packed with must-have content for VH fans.

The set includes a newly remastered version of the original album, a disc of rare single edits and B-sides, plus a previously unreleased live performance recorded on August 27, 1986. On this episode of Talking Guitars, it’s the ultimate NAMM Show 2026 wrap-up 🎸🔥
Gear highlights, behind-the-scenes stories, and all the fun from an unforgettable week.

We kick things off with Phil X ripping it up at the MAHAFFAY Amplifiers booth, right next to our friend Steve Rosen—so of course we had to catch up. Then we tracked down LEKATO, checked out their booth, and they hooked me up with a guitar that I’ll be reviewing and demoing later this week (seriously excited about that one).

We stopped by the Peavey booth to check out the HP2 guitars, Adrian Vandenberg models, and their new Unity mixer, plus some cool River Song acoustic guitars. Over at IK Multimedia, we watched Dweezil Zappa and Blues Saraceno jam—absolute magic. We also checked out Dweezil’s Shabat guitar with a Vegatrem, then headed to the Shabat booth for a full tour of their killer guitars.

Next up: the ESP booth—appointment only… but you know us 😎 We got in and checked out ESP, LTD, Takamine guitars, and some new ENGL amps. After that, I show you the swag, photos, and goodies we picked up along the way.

We hit the Mighty Mite booth for bodies, necks, and pickups, checked out Fender’s new Fender Studio product, and saw photos from a dealer-only Custom Shop party featuring some jaw-dropping EVH Custom Shop guitars. We also met Marc from Gary’s Guitars and did a fun interview with Music Therapy Laz at the Creator Lounge—great vibes all around.

And yes… new shout-outs, great people, and tons of NAMM energy 🎶
