🚨 A Reminder for Every CA Student Searching for Articleship

When we’re looking for an articleship, every connection feels like an opportunity. We reach out to seniors, send messages, and hope someone will genuinely guide us.

But sometimes, you come across people whose intentions are nowhere close to professional.

Last year, I had an experience with a senior from a reputed firm who initially said he could “help me get in.” Over time, the conversation drifted into personal compliments, invasive questions, and ultimately — he asked me out.
It was uncomfortable, unexpected, and a wake-up call.

I’ve shared the entire incident openly in a video today, because I know so many students go through similar situations silently.

For everyone searching for articleship, please remember:

✔️ Keep conversations strictly professional from the beginning
✔️ Don’t switch to WhatsApp unless it’s officially needed
✔️ Recognise red flags early — they’re not “normal”
✔️ No opportunity is worth tolerating disrespect
✔️ Choose mentors who uplift, not those who make you uncomfortable
✔️ Quality > quantity when it comes to networking

And the most important reminder:

Your dignity and safety will ALWAYS matter more than any article-ship position.

Articleship Truths They Don’t Tell You

Stepping into articleship is like switching from a textbook to a live wire.

Some hard truths I’ve learned so far:

You won’t know everything—and that’s okay. The real skill is figuring things out under pressure.

Excel shortcuts > fancy stationery.

Communication isn’t soft skill—it’s survival.

Deadlines have a funny way of teaching discipline.

Learning happens most when you're just outside your comfort zone.

Tons of people have been reaching out to me for a referral at my firm — and while I genuinely want to help everyone, it’s just not possible to reply or refer each one individually. But let me tell you something that might help you in your own journey.

My Articleship Journey: A Small Story, Big Lesson

I applied to multiple firms — including the Big 4s. Gave interviews too. But the process of selection and onboarding is extremely slow.
And I was eager to start my articleship early.

The truth?
I had ZERO references.
Still, I kept applying.
I even got selected at a couple of firms (like DPNC), but got rejected later — one reason being, they weren’t taking girls in audit.

One day, I randomly got to know about Forvis Mazars.
No scheduled interview, no contact on LinkedIn — nothing.

I just asked a friend who works there whether there were any vacancies.
She told me there was a walk-in going on.

That was it. I had already prepared well for my interview and that night i studied my best…
Walked into the office the next day…
Gave the interview — answered a few questions (will share those soon in another post/video)…
And even met the partner of the firm…
And guess what?
I got selected that very day.

Even though I kept exploring other options, my heart knew this was the right choice.
Why?
• It’s close to home
• The environment has zero toxicity
• Great exposure
• I can manage both travel & studies well

Till now, it honestly feels like one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

So here’s my advice to those looking for articleship:

1. Don’t depend only on LinkedIn.
Build your network, yes. Send connection requests, DM people. But also…

2. Be willing to walk in.
Show up physically at firms. It shows genuine interest, and you never know where luck turns around.

3. Work on skills, not just marks.
Excel, communication, adaptability — these matter way more than your Inter scores.

4. Trust your gut.
And be ready to act on your instincts when opportunity knocks.

5. Be prepared for any type of interview because you never know when you will be appearing for one.. the last minute study is a total stress

Marks will get you an interview, maybe.
But your skills & mindset will shape your journey.
