Fellow cactus & succulent enthusiasts! Although the official start to Spring (March 20th) has not yet arrived, an unusually early and long stretch of very sunny and mild weather has forced my hand: I have decided to bring forward a whole series of activities in my cactus & succulent glasshouse, including my EARLIEST "FIRST WATERING" EVER!

My new video - an early March update from the greenhouse - will be available for your viewing from this Saturday, March 14th onwards!
https://youtu.be/stYKtIEwdCw

Check out which activities have been fast-tracked, what now has to wait, how are my plants coping and how can I best help them along with this unexpected kick-start, suddenly jumping from dormancy to growth?

I am covering a whole string of hopefully interesting, exciting and informative topics for you, around my winter-to-spring transition - including:
- how and when I water (& fertilize),
- how I control sunlight and temperatures in the greenhouse when days are pretty warm and nights still very chilly outside,
- the importance of UV for cacti, which glazing to choose on your greenhouse in order to optimitize light- and UV-transmissibility,
- and many more infos around chores, activities and plant care in early spring.
- AND I am providing some tips and recommendations for cacti to grow in your collections, if you are looking for spring-blooming cacti!

Also, we will take a look around the greenhouse and check out the plants in my collection - are they rested, strong and healthy enough to get started again after a long, cool and relatively dark dormancy period?

Are you ready?

Cheers,
Joe

Fellow cactus & succulent plant enthusiasts, it is time once again for a joint visit and tour of a Botanic Garden! And, this is a truly SPECIAL one that I had an opportunity to visit: it is a UNESCO world heritage site, over 160 years old, has an absolutely unique and magical setting and boasts over 10,000 species of wonderful flora (...and some very cool fauna too, haha)!!!

And best of all, there is a large collection of fantastic cacti and other succulent plants, growing there in the most extraordinary climate, when it comes to growing xerophytic plants originally from much more arid climates! I will be taking a look at which plants are grown there, and also, how they are grown in this climate. There are some very unusual plants and blooms - and even a special feature "living fossil" cactus, most unusual!!

Please join me for this very special tour, when my new video is uploaded to my channel, this coming Saturday, February 7th, 2026:
https://youtu.be/SoEk96TFfFg

Hope to see you all there, bring a sun hat, shades, some sun screen (...and perhaps even an umbrella) - it will definitely get hot and humid!

Cheers,
Joe

Hi everyone! If you enjoy growing succulent plants then, I would dare to say, growing at least one or two succulent EUPHORBIA in your plant collection is a must! They are awesomely beautiful plants that come in all shapes and sizes. Many people grow them mainly to enjoy their exotic and unique looks. However, they have another super special, and often underestimated feature: their incredible and extraordinary blooms!

In my upcoming, new video - it will be uploaded to my channel this coming Saturday, November 15th - I explain why Euphorbia blooms and flowers are so uniquely special and quite different to many other "normal" flowers, e.g. from cacti. Also, I highlight a variety of different and beautiful Euphorbia blooms from my own collection. I hope that you find this video informative and useful and also that you enjoy the selection of plants and blooms that I have chosen for you!

The video will cover some of the following questions and topics for you:
- Can my Euphorbia plants have flowers?
- Euphorbia cultivation tips
- Why are Euphorbia blooms so special?
- What do Euphorbia fruits & seeds look like?
- When is Euphorbia blooming season?
- A selection of beautiful Euphorbia blooms from my own collection

Among the plants and blooms featured in this video are:

Euphorbia fruticosa, E. greenwayi, E. geroldii, E. ritchei, E. horrida, E. persistentifolia, E. leuconeura, E. obesa, E. symmetrica, E. pteroneura, E. meloformis, E. tortirama, E. decaryi var. cap-saintemariensis, E. grandicornis and E. milii hybrids.

What do you think of these plants and their blooms? Check them all out in my greenhouse and video this coming Saturday - see you all there!

Btw, if you would like to see a whole lot more of my succulent Euphorbia plants (and others), including many cultivation tips and other useful infos from my Aug/Sept. greenhouse collection tour that I posted a little earlier, here is the link for you:

Hey, my fellow cactus & other succulent plant enthusiasts! It has been a little while since I last posted for you - my apologies, always so much to do and time always seems to be running away from me, haha! Today, however, there's finally some time to give you a quick recap of some of the highlights from the past month or more.

But before I do that, let me also quickly tell you: another exciting new video is ready for you, to be uploaded this coming Saturday, October 11th: it's A FALL/AUTUMN UPDATE, packed with news, infos and tips especially around the topic of PREPARING FOR WINTER DORMANCY IN MY CACTUS & SUCCULENT GREENHOUSE! Cactus Joe

Hello, cactus & succulent plant community, a very special cactus plant & bloom feature is coming to you this weekend! As promised in my last monthly blooms video (June lookback), where I briefly showed you this very special plant: here is a dedicated feature of the awesome Selenicereus grandiflorus (aka Night Blooming Cactus, Queen of the Night, etc.)!

Join me for a rare and unique, less than 24 hour encounter with one of the most beautiful and stunning flower experiences that the family of cacti, the Cactaceae, has in store! It is one of the (if not THE) largest cactus flower produced by any one cactus. And it is definitely by far the largest cactus flower that you will get to see from my plant collection, haha!

This latest video will be uploaded to my channel this coming Saturday, August 2nd 2025!
https://youtu.be/U1p73bqCk4Q

In this dedicated video we take a look at what this plant looks like, how I grow it, where it originates from, etc. And we look at the various stages of the bloom from the gradual late afternoon opening to the midnight splendour and what it then looks like during the next morning.

Please join me in my cactus greenhouse, I'm looking forward to your visit! And I am very curious to hear from you what you think about the plant and bloom! And also, whether you too have it growing and flowering for you in your own plant collections!

Btw, it is also a star and featured plant in many botanical gardens around the world, where people flock to see the flowers on probably the one night of the year that these gardens will stay open very late, just to share the beauty of these blooms! Enjoy a private and close-up view in this video!

See you soon, cheers,
Joe

Cactus Joe

Hey, welcome back my fellow Cactus & Succulent Plant Enthusiasts! What exactly is it that draws YOU, personally, to growing cacti and other succulent plants?

Is it the incredible and mind-boggling variety of their forms, shapes and sizes?

Is it the beauty and unbelievable color-spectrum of their awesome and delicate blooms?

Is it the challenge of successfully growing them from tiny seedlings to jaw-dropping, mature and thriving plants?

Is it the awe-inspiring, terrifying beauty of their spines (or thorns)?

Or is it something else? What do you think, what is it MAINLY for you? To me, honestly, that is a really, really TOUGH CALL, as I have to admit it is truly the full range of all these factors!

Now, as I have quite frequently focused on the blooms of my plants in my collection (…I’m sure you haven’t noticed, hahaha!), I wanted - for a change - to take on a rather more unusual perspective for my upcoming video! So, this time, no flowers, no unboxing, no visit for a change, haha (…oh! oh! …is that a silent sigh and groan I could just hear, running through the viewing community? Hope not, LOL).

INSTEAD, the upcoming video will entirely FOCUS ON THE BEAUTY, DIVERSITY OF SHAPE & COLOR AND HISTORY, FUNCTION & PURPOSE OF CACTUS SPINES …and I will feature some of the most terrifying, but incredibly beautiful, spines in my collection! I PROMISE to share with you some real STUNNERS!!!

The NEW VIDEO will be uploaded and ready for you all to see on my channel THIS COMING SATURDAY, July 19th, 2025: https://youtu.be/yfrhXrBHBO0

Btw, if you are (...hopefully you all are!) SUBSCRIBED to my channel and also have the automatic notifications switched on (...by clicking the bell icon next to the channel's subscribe button), you will be immediately informed when the video goes live!

I hope you will enjoy and find interesting, this rather different and unique perspective and look at our favorite hobby plants – best wishes, see you all on Saturday and ENJOY!

Cheers,
Joe
