There are two types of legal practitioners in the Republic of Korea.
One is a beop-mu-sa(a certified judicial scrivener)(, "Solicitor " is a term used to refer to similar legal professions in Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. Judicial scriveners assist clients in commercial and real estate registration procedures and in the preparation of documents for litigation. From Wikipedia ) and the other is a byeon-ho-sa(an attorney-at-law)
The difference between a beop-mu-sa and a byeon-ho-sa is that a certified judicial scrivener cannot represent clients in court .
In the Republic of Korea, when a legal problem arises for the first time,
the first thing to do is to ask a beop-mu-sa.
There are no restrictions on the qualifications for a a beop-mu-sa to pass a beop-mu-sa exam administered by the Supreme Court. Only 130 people are passed every year.
