In my recent video about the suburbs, I dispelled the myth that "suburbs are greener" by showing how city dwellers live much greener lifestyles than suburbanites by default. Specifically in the US.

Well, the amazing researchers at University of Toronto's School of Cities made a map of this in Toronto! You can clearly see the difference that walkability, transit access, and housing density make.

What's interesting is that there are small pockets in the suburbs with lower emissions due to a mix of housing types and different transit options available, proving that suburbs can be much greener as long as they're designed right.

Jeff Allen at UofT makes tons of other maps and data visualizations like this! Definitely go support his work!

If you watched my bad driving is normalized video, you've heard about that speed camera in Toronto that has been constantly getting cut down.

Well Doug Ford (aka trump lite) and his government are about to completely ban speed cameras in Ontario (province where toronto is located).

I often hear from those in the urbanism/transportation sphere that speed cameras don't address the root cause of speeding, and that physical interventions (road diets, raised crosswalks, curb extensions, etc) work better. That is true and I talked about it in my speed limits video.

But physical street redesigns take years to complete, and the people who oppose speed cameras are almost always the same people who oppose those design changes.

To his credit, Ford did say he will fund physical street design elements but:
1. he's a pathological liar
2. he's historically been against road safety measures (like bike lanes)
3. once again, they take years to implement

The studies and data clearly show that speed cameras do slow drivers down, so why not have both? Why not keep the cameras for now until the streets have been redesigned? Heck, why not use the money generated by speed cameras to fund the street redesigns??!?!?!

It's almost like this was never about safety in the first place.....

If you're in Ontario, I recommend you support Friends and Families For Safe Streets: www.ffsafestreets.ca/

And heres a great news report on the situation:

If you were wondering what equipment I use, what my filming setup looks like, and what I look like as a baby, I just uploaded a behind the scenes gear/setup tour on my Patreon! I think this might be my first video where I'm not reading off a script.

Get access to this and more, while also supporting the channel! (If not, that's 100% ok, I still love you)

Who would win in a court of law:

A: The Ontario government literally making up BS to justify removing bike lanes in Toronto

B: Decades of extensive evidence supporting bike lanes and the government ITSELF admitting that removing bike lanes will get people killed and won't reduce congestion

The 41-page ruling was a complete and utter smackdown on Doug Ford's government, who had absolutely no evidence to back their claims. It's hilarious. Even a newborn child would have the intellect to rule against them.

Apparently, they even tried to move the bike lane removal law onto a DIFFERENT bill as an attempt to make this case moot 🤦

Ford's government will still appeal the case, so this technically isn't over, but they just took the biggest L in the history of L's.

Huge shoutout to Cycle Toronto for winning this case. Please please check them out and consider donating!

POV: Toronto commits traffic suicide

For those who don't know, the Dufferin and Bathurst bus routes move over 60,000 people per day combined, and adding bus lanes would make it significantly faster and more reliable.

Instead, the city caved to a few rich business owners who use AI to fake testimonials spewing false information.... I wish I was making that up.

Thankfully this "watered down" plan is still just a proposal so if you're from Toronto, submit comments here: secure.toronto.ca/council/agenda-item.do?item=2025… and email your councillor ESPECIALLY if you live in a ward along these routes.

Ive been travelling to a few east asian cities for the past few weeks (will be topics for future videos).

I am posting regular content about what I have seen on my bluesky (@flurfdesign.bsky.social) and instagram (@flurfdesign), like what the bike/transit infrastructure is like in a "small" chinese city!

if you can guess the cities below you get a fortune cookie 🥠

LMAO so this group is using fake AI generated "concerned residents" to give testimonials against some new (much needed) bus lanes in Toronto.

To be clear, I think its good to criticize projects like this even if they are inherently "good", but this absolutely destroys any credibility this group has and undermines the actual PEOPLE with legitimate concerns.

If you live in Toronto, most of the public consultations have already past but you can learn about the project at: www.toronto.ca/legdocs/mmis/2025/ttc/bgrd/backgrou…

The age of AI is insane lol
