We had this beast yesterday. Finally got a chance to try out my new rain shelter for mics and put it in the middle of the field, together with Osmo Action 5 camera which recorded the whole storm. In the end it almost didn't rain, just wonderful distant thunders and wind. I'm currently editing the video and I hope it will be ready this weekend! Tomorrow we're expecting probably the strongest storms of the week so I'll keep you posted :)
I spent the last few days with my family (Easter) that's why I didn't upload anything new. Just enjoying the sun for a while, on places where I grew up :) But tomorrow we are expecting some severe thunderstorms in our area and I can't wait to try out all my new things I made and my new mics. This season will be great :)
I tried some new gear today. 4 new omni mics - 2 for quiet ambience (before the storm) and loud/close lightning strikes and 2 for rain and high frequency details.I also bought an Osmo Action 5 for video and it looks good so far. It's great that it's waterproof and small so I can leave it with my mics and not worry about it. Currently I'm working on a portable shelter so I can leave it all in the middle of the field during raining. It'll be great because I won't be limited to finding trees to hide the microphones under, which also takes a lot of time to set up. I'll just put it anywhere that has a nice view of the storm :) I hope I can get everything ready before the season starts
I noticed you liked my last post (forest photo). I also made a video that day. So I think this could be my next ambient video this Sunday? (screenshot from the video)
I spent the last two days in the mountains, exploring and trying to find the perfect place to record. No people, no airplanes, no cars in the distance. Only quiet nature and wind. And yes, I found it. I left my microphones there recording all day and all night, and for the first time I managed to record several hours of quiet winter nature and wind, without any unwanted sounds of civilization. With microphones that have the lowest self-noise in the world (only 4 dBa), I was finally able to hear the REAL silence of winter. Do you want to hear it too? I think it's time for a new winter video :)
Meet Gregor Vida! Friend of mine from Slovenia who is also professional sound/field recordist. Gregor helped me several times with thunderstorms and wind recordings when I needed some new/fresh ones for my videos. I've always loved his style of recording because it's very similar to mine or the one I'm trying to get closer to. Slovenia is a beautiful country, very similar to Slovakia (where I live) so our recordings works really great together. I'm attaching some photos of Gregor building rain shelter for his mics before severe thunderstorm in the Alps. You may have heard this recording in some of my mountain storm videos.
