Okay yāall⦠Mercy is in the Baby of the Year contest and I would LOVE your help getting this sweet boy some votes. š„¹š
If you know Mercy, you know he is curious about EVERYTHING. He loves being outside, exploring nature, eating š, looking through books, and pointing at every little thing he sees.
If he won the $25,000, we would use it to help pay off medical bills from my pregnancy after an insurance issue left us without coverage, and put the rest toward more financial stability for our family.
Voting is free and every vote helps. If you have a second, please vote for Mercy and share this with someone who might vote too. š«¶
A good reminder that the way we speak mattersāespecially with the people we live with and love the most. I definitely donāt want my husband thinking the wilderness sounds peaceful. šš
These chapters made me think about friendship in a way I honestly havenāt in a long time.
After I got married, I never really had super close friendships.
Iāve had people I care about, people Iāve talked to, people Iāve spent time withābut not many really deep friendships where I felt completely known.
And honestly, I donāt really feel a huge pull to change that right now.
What I did like about these chapters was the reminder that adult friendships change for so many reasons.
People move. Kids get older. Schedules change. Priorities shift. Someone enters a hard season. Sometimes people just donāt have the same time or energy they used to.
One thing that stood out to me was the idea that friendship is affected by proximity, timing, and energy.
And that helped me realize something:
Distance doesnāt always mean rejection.
Someone not texting back right away doesnāt automatically mean they donāt care.
Not being invited somewhere doesnāt always mean something is wrong.
A friendship changing doesnāt always mean the friendship was fake.
Sometimes life just changed.
So for me, the takeaway from these chapters isnāt:
āI need to go make more friends.ā
Itās more:
Stop creating a whole story in my head when someone is distant.
Let them be busy. Let them be in a different season. Let them not text back.
And let me not automatically make it mean something about me.
These chapters made me realize there are really two sides to āLet Them.ā
The first is learning to let other people have their emotions without immediately making those emotions my responsibility.
They can be upset. They can be disappointed. They can disagree with me.
But then comes the harder partā¦
Can I let myself feel MY emotions without immediately reacting to them?
That one got me. š¬
I can feel angry without saying something hurtful. I can feel frustrated without snapping. I can feel hurt without immediately sending the text, shutting down, or trying to make someone else feel what Iām feeling.
Feelings are real. But feelings donāt have to become actions.
Then Chapter 8 took it even further: sometimes doing what is right is going to feel TERRIBLE.
You might feel guilty. Someone might be disappointed in you. Someone may even be angry with you.
And that discomfort can make you question whether youāre doing the right thing.
This is where I personally have to filter the book through my faith.
For me, āLet Meā isnāt simply do whatever feels right for me.
Itās: What is actually right? What aligns with my values? And most importantly, what honors God?
Then I have to be willing to handle the emotions that come with doing it.
I think thatās the biggest thing Iām taking away:
Let them feel what they feel. Let me feel what I feel. But neither of those feelings gets to decide what is right.
Iām really enjoying this book, but Iām also finding myself stopping and thinking about where I agree, where I need to challenge myself, and where my faith gives me a different perspective.
And honestly, that makes it an even better read. šš±
Marriage has shown me that following Jesus isnāt just about what I believeāit shows up in how I love when Iām frustrated, hurt, or convinced Iām right.
Sometimes my flesh wants to win, prove my point, keep score, or wait for my husband to change first.
But what if God is using those very moments to work on me?
A God-honoring marriage requires humility, grace, forgiveness, and learning when to let go of the need to win. Iām still learning this. š¤
Question: What has marriage taught you about yourself that you didnāt see before?
Maybe the goal isnāt to look like you have it all together.
Maybe the goal is to let them see you trying.
Trying to save the marriage. Trying to be a better parent. Trying to get closer to God. Trying to get out of debt. Trying to make more money. Trying to get healthy. Trying to start over at 30, 40, 50⦠whenever.
Somebody might judge you. Somebody might laugh. Somebody might remember the old you.
Let them.
Be a beginner. Be awkward. Change your mind. Start again.

Chapters 13 & 14 of The Let Them Theory š±
Okay⦠these two chapters made me think.
Chapter 13 was about adult friendships, and honestly, I get why friendships can get harder as you get older.
People get married. Have kids. Move. Get busy. Life changes.
And for me, I think friendship has just been a little harder because so much of my energy is going into building my home life.
My marriage.
My kids.
Our family.
Trying to make our home feel connected.
That doesnāt mean I donāt care about people outside of my house. I do.
I just know that in this season, A LOT of my energy is going toward the people I live with every single day.
And I actually liked the reminder that sometimes friendships changing doesnāt automatically mean somebody did something wrong.
Sometimes life just changes.
But Chapter 14??? That one got me more. š
Basically: you cannot make another adult change.
You can explain.
You can encourage.
You can remind them 500 times.
You can get irritated.
You can even think, If they would JUST do this one thingā¦
And they still might not do it.
Marriage alone will teach you this. š
My husband and I have been together a long time, and I can tell you right nowātrying to force somebody to change will wear YOU out.
And the same thing goes for me.
There have been things people told me for YEARS that I needed to work on, and I didnāt really change until I was ready to change.
That part humbled me.
Because sometimes I can see so clearly what somebody else āneedsā to doā¦
while I still have plenty of my own stuff to work on. š
So I think my biggest takeaway from these chapters is:
Let people be where they are.
Love them.
Encourage them when it makes sense.
But stop making their growth your personal project.
And then turn that energy back toward your own life.
Because THAT part you can actually do something about. š±

I asked ChatGPT what marriage might look like 100 years from now⦠and some of the answers feel like theyāre already beginning. š
Technology may change how we meet, communicate, get counseling, and even how easy it is to walk away.
But I hope one thing never becomes outdated:
Two people choosing each other. Again and again. ā¤ļø
What do you thinkāwill marriage be stronger or weaker 100 years from now?

I turn 40 soon.
And if Iām being completely transparentā¦
itās messing with me a little.
40 feels different.
It makes you look at the life behind you AND the life you still want in front of you.
Did I do enough?
Did I waste too much time?
Am I where I thought I would be?
Is it too late to change the things I still want to change?
Maybe this is what people call a midlife crisis. š
But lately Iāve been wonderingā¦
What if it isnāt a crisis at all?
What if this is the age when you finally wake up?
When you stop living for everyoneās approval.
When you realize your marriage is worth fighting for.
Your kids arenāt going to be little forever.
Your body needs to be taken care of.
Your dreams arenāt stupid.
Money problems donāt have to be permanent.
You can get closer to God.
You can apologize.
You can forgive.
You can start the thing.
You can become someone youāve never been before.
And maybe the fact that youāre suddenly thinking about how much time you have left isnāt depressing.
Maybe itās a gift.
Because youāre still here.
You still have time.
So noā¦
I donāt want a midlife crisis.
I want a midlife awakening.
And maybe 40 isnāt the beginning of getting old.
Maybe itās the beginning of finally understanding how precious my life actually is.
