Our thoughts - The videos consist of slavishly read scripts with no valuable and creative content, as if created by an AI, and also no creative footage, just a random combination of simple animated screenshots of the work. And the video is using a title and thumbnail as if there is a copy of the full film. It's a message from Ms. Sheila Rao, wife of the late #RamMohan, the co-director of #Ramayana #TheLegendOfPrinceRama regarding the theatrical release in India on Jan 24, 2025. In the first photo, she is shown with Mr. Kartik Mohan, her son, Mr Kenji Yoshii, the assistant producer of the film, and Mr Prem Motwani, coordinator and interpreter for the film production. The second photo is a group photo taken when she was invited to a fan-meet screening organised by Mumbai Anime Corps (MAC) on 26 Jan, 2025 with the organizer members.

A BRUSH WITH THE GODS

My exposure to the Ramayana as a youngster tended to draw me towards Ravana, more than any other character. He seemed to have a graph---from being high up during his unquestioned fiefdom in Lanka...followed by his downward journey which begins when he gives in to his ego and the temptation to kidnap Sita...and then finally, hurtling towards his ignominious defeat by Rama's army---proving he was as human as anybody else.

And as a reader/listener/viewer---you tended to ride the crest and trough of this wave---envying him, hating him...and then, perhaps even sympathising with him--- as he approached his pre-ordained demise.

Have got to say I enjoyed every dot on that graph...and identified with him, all the way. Never was there a dull moment at those recording sessions---during my solo scenes...or even those with my co-Voice Actors.

I just hope this production, after now having finally seen the light of day, will be a springboard to more such Animation Projects (in and by India)...not just as collaborations with other countries...but even as totally indigenous ones.

It's about time India became an Animation Powerhouse...given our rich history (along with the innumerable themes manifested in our Epics and so on)...AND our unquestionable hold over Technology (especially of the Computer Graphics kind).

With the best wishes of Japan, the 'Land of the Rising Sun'...and the good people of that country (who truly appreciate and value the art of 'Animation')...who were so passionate and successful in seeing this through...let us hope a New Dawn is breaking.

Thank you for your continued support of #Ramayana #TheLegendOfPrinceRama . We, TEM Co Ltd, note on the following two points regarding the screening of the animated film “Ramayana : The Legend of Prince Rama” at the Parliament on February 15 reported in some media.

・We had not received any explanation from the organizer of the screening, and we had not granted them the rights necessary for the screening when that information was made public.

・In the article, there are inappropriate statements allegedly commented by Mr Arjun Aggarwal, co-founder of Geek Pictures Pvt Ltd in India(“GPI”).

We, TEM (CEO: Atsushi Matsuo, the executive producer / A director: Kenji Yoshii, the assistant producer), are the production investor and copyright holder of the film.
We authorize Geek Pictures Co., Ltd. in Japan (“GPJ”) to produce dubbed version(s) of the film in the Indian language and grant GPJ rights necessary for that dubbing production and the right to screen the dubbed version(s) and the original English version released in 1993 in theaters and non-theatrical facilities for the general public in India.
GPJ sublicenses the rights to GPI, its affiliate in India, which produced and theatrically distributes the dubbed versions in three languages.

Because of the above mentioned license agreement, GPJ and GPI do not have the rights to conduct this screening at the Parliament, which is not for the general public, themselves and to grant another entity to conduct it.
We would like to clearly note that we are NOT opposed to a screening at the Parliament.
We just regret that the screening was announced without any explanation to us.
We have sought clarification from GPJ and have an overview of the event, and will undertake the necessary scrutiny and procedures to approve the event from now on.

Regarding a comment allegedly made by Mr Arjun in the article "We are deeply honoured by this gesture from the Parliament of India. It is a privilege to see our work being recognized at such a prestigious level.",
GPI, a sub-licensee of GPJ, is in the position of distributing the work theatrically and producing new dubbing for that, and not in a position to say “our work” as if GPI was the representatives of the work's production.
We would like to emphasize that this film work was produced between the 1980s and 1992 with funding from TEM and efforts of Nippon Ramayana Film Co Ltd and many Japanese and Indian creators and collaborators.
