रेल मंत्री अश्विनी वैष्णव ने घोषणा की है कि भारत की पहली बुलेट ट्रेन 15 अगस्त 2027 से चलेगी। पहले चरण में यह सूरत–वापी के बीच करीब 100 किमी में शुरू होगी। अहमदाबाद–मुंबई बुलेट ट्रेन परियोजना का 55% काम पूरा हो चुका है और यह जापानी शिंकानसेन तकनीक पर आधारित होगी।
इसके साथ ही गुवाहाटी–कोलकाता के बीच पहली स्लीपर वंदे भारत ट्रेन 18–19 जनवरी से शुरू हो सकती है, जिसका ट्रायल सफल रहा है।
