Even though we have not met in person, Sir, I have always admired your exemplary leadership style — your eloquence, composure, and people-centric approach to security matters. Thank you for bringing the military closer to the grassroots, for strengthening media–military relations, and above all, for being a great Nigerian.
As you bow out of active service, your footprints remain deeply etched in the sands of time. Your leadership style will continue to serve as a reference point for generations to come. You will be greatly missed in the media space, but your legacy of service, unity, and patriotism will endure.
I wish you a happy retirement and a smooth transition into civil life, Sir.
I will never forget that sunny Sunday afternoon when I gathered the courage to walk up to you. You looked at me — not as a rank, not as a barrier — but as a young man with a voice, and you simply said, “How can I help you?”
That moment changed everything. I shared my idea, unsure of how it would be received, but you did what true leaders do — you listened. You didn’t rush me, you didn’t dismiss me. Instead, you said, “Come over here, let’s talk.”
That simple act of openness and respect is the reason Defence Civil Military Relations social media handles exists today. You didn’t just support an idea — you built confidence in a young mind, and you showed that leadership is not about distance, but about connection.
Sir, thank you for believing in my ideas , thank you for the guidance, the encouragement.
As you step into civilian life, may this new path be as impactful, purposeful, and inspiring as the uniformed one you have completed with honour. Your legacy is not just in the system — it is in the lives you touched.
Wishing you grace, fulfillment, and peace in this new chapter, sir.
THE MILITARY SENTRY – SILENT GUARDIANS OF SECURITY
In every military formation, there is one duty that never sleeps — sentry duty. A military sentry is a soldier assigned to guard a post, watch over critical areas, and serve as the first line of defense for the entire cantonment or base.
Sentries stand at their posts regardless of weather, time, or personal comfort. They are the quiet professionals whose sharp eyes and alert minds detect threats before they become problems. Their responsibilities include controlling access to sensitive areas, challenging anyone approaching their post, reporting suspicious activity, and defending their assigned area if necessary — even at the risk of their lives.
This duty is not taken lightly. Sentries operate under strict standing orders, commonly known as the General Orders of a Sentry, which guide their actions and responses in any situation. The discipline required for this role is immense; a lapse in attention could compromise the safety of the entire military installation.
Far from being “just guards,” sentries represent the vigilance and readiness of the entire armed forces. Their presence is a constant reminder that security is not an event, but a continuous state of preparedness.
As we appreciate the Nigerian Armed Forces, let us also remember these silent guardians who hold the line day and night, ensuring that the rest of us can go about our lives in safety.
