Can you guess what games I’ll be talking about in next week’s video?
-A cancelled sequel to what’s probably the least popular of the major golden age arcade games. -A game with a funny name that’s vastly overshadowed by its sister game that released the same day. -Two games that both came out in 1993, one for the arcades by a recently formed developer, and the other for a home system created by the company most people from that new company came from. Both games have an extremely similar theme.
Even after months of figuring out what kind of format I would use and trying to condense as much information into it as possible, I’m honestly not very happy with how my last video turned out. I feel like I’ve kept putting myself in the shadow of what other people are doing, making videos just because no one else is making them, more than making them because they’re what I personally want to make. This year I want to move away from that. That doesn’t mean I won’t follow this video up, I still want to talk about some stuff on these lists regardless, but I’ve become a little less enthusiastic about doing it. Nonetheless, thank you to everyone who watched it and enjoyed it!
My next video is going to be one I teased back in June that’s been requested for a while. But I’m not sure what I want to do the week after that, so I’m here to ask: What other shoot em up topics would you like to see me cover?
I was planning on covering Sengoku Blade, but I’m a honestly a little Psikyo’d out after the Gunbird video and would rather not repeat things I already said for a while. I’ll hear out any requests for future retro shoot em up reviews, unless it involves CAVE or Touhou, not that I have anything against them, but I feel topics related to them are better suited for people more familiar with them. Also, Shikigami no Shiro is still a bit of blind spot for me as well. But I’ll take any other suggestions!
Good news! A build of the lost Famicom game Splatterworld was just released yesterday, the perfect time! I'm not planning on making a video about it, but I messed around with it a bit and it's clearly legit and really neat, though it seems to be a later build from the one in the footage we had. Still pretty neat stuff.
Also, it's not the only game I covered in that video that has been released since, as Soldam was also given a cartridge release (albeit on the NES instead of the Famicom) back in September. With City Connection licensing this, we may be one step closer to seeing a rerelease of Super Dog Booby! I haven't played Soldam, though, as I'm not shelling out the money for the repro cart, but it's still cool that it has released at all!
Hopefully, more of these games get found this year!
So because recording the Q&A video has been such a disaster, but I still want to answer your questions, I’ll be answering your Q&A questions in text under the original Q&A community post. Just a heads up!
