[rant incoming] Haven’t gotten around to posting anything yet sorry, (will get around to it eventually) but I saw this post from TGC and… okay man.
These prizes are absolute trash. Ofc if anyone says “you don’t have to watch these streams” yeah I won’t this takes literally 0 effort from the company to give its community “content” that actually feels rewarding. 1 hour (3 was a typo) for 5 candles? Then 3 hours for 15 candles? You can work an hour at a minimum wage job and buy a candle pack that gives you the same amount for less time you spend watching anything. Or even gain more on CRs within 3 hours. 30 candles were the base prize pack for past campaigns/events, but no, giving the community just the bare minimum is too difficult for a multi-millionaire company. They're even hogging in-game currency like they need it.
The Sky epidemic is an embarrassment. High candle prices, unaffordable IAP, a literal bunny hair costs more than 100 candles, and TGC has their head up their arse so clearly they don't understand what’s best for their own fanbase anymore. What a joke.
Oh, and who cares about some purple trails? You already get those from spirits lol wtf. And yes, you can just have these streams running in the background, but for TGC to think 20 candles max was the intention for 3 hours of watching streams is outrageous.
I already had another video in early production exploring the other problems of Sky (rather than simply IAP pricing). My friend helped me list a few things they and other people have issues with, such as burnout, FOMO (fear of missing out) unwanted bug fixes and ignored feedback, etc.
I’m planning to make a longer video addressing these topics, though I *could* also make a short series so it focuses on few ideas at a time, but only if there’s enough material to talk about.
I’d like if you guys could spend some time commenting your own issues with the game so I can collate them and put them into a singular video, or multiple. There’s been a lot of helpful criticism in my previous videos, but it’d be much more convenient to have them altogether here.
Not sure when this will be completed, but I hope I’ll have enough willpower to handle CapCut’s lag lmao
With the current state of Sky, it almost feels weird to return to making regular “meme” videos whilst having a complex relationship with the game. Hence why I haven’t posted this week. I don’t want to come off as “milking” the game’s problems for views unless people want more places to express their opinions. But I also don’t want to come off as disregarding the issues either.
What type of videos would you like to see more of?
This is just some brainstorming that I've been doing, but I've had thoughts of potential solutions to alleviate the grind system that generates constant burnout. 20~ candles maximum a day is not sustainable long-term.
1. A daily reward feature (since TGC's so adamant on keeping players logged in every day.) Some games/apps reward its users for logging in daily, meanwhile the way Sky does it is by making their players work constantly for them. And to earn very little. Using this system: login on day 1, earn 5 candles, login on day 2 and earn 10 candles, etc. Even if you are in burnout, logging in simply to receive the rewards would take little effort and help significantly reduce the time to obtain currency.
2. Implement quests that reward a certain number of candles. The harder, the more rewarding. This could even replace the usual daily quests, whereas instead of a single candle, you could earn more depending on its difficulty. Like reliving one of the carry spirits in wasteland; I think we should be compensated for the things we go through for such a small reward lol. These quests can even be implemented separately. But if that's too much, make it a weekly thing.
Sometimes I contemplate skipping a daily because it's so tedious for what I'll earn in the end, (the "don't go" spirit is the worst.) Go through blood, sweat and tears just for a single candle? Nuh uh.
3. This focuses more on the fashion aspect. Instead of currency, create (separate) quests that honour players with a free cosmetic upon completion. These will be permanent and offer players items that won't risk them missing out on things that do cost candles. This will reduce some FOMO and give every player an opportunity. Every seasonal questline (as far as I know) has you to complete them, but there's minimal sense of achievement. You still have to work more for the rewards they'll offer you and I haven't even bothered to finish the Passage questline because of this.
These are just some ideas. I know someone will think "you just want the game to hand things to players" but don't bother lol. Sky was hardly ever fair in the first place, and I want to be delusional in finding a sense of stability/balance in this game.
Didn’t know Sky players can be so insufferable nowadays. First, it was the chronically online glazers, now I have people saying they’re annoyed by me complaining about prices “when they have it worse in their country.” Okay I’ll just be happy paying $30 for a cape then lol dang it’s crazy out here.
I missed out on a couple of recent Sky seasons/events but I’ve heard that the next Aviary-inspired(?) season will be starting today. I’m thinking to return for a little while, maybe finish that one low-effort video I’ve procrastinated on for 5 months lmao
for those who are interested or seem to enjoy my outro, the full version is now (also) on Spotify👌 ngl I didn't think it was all that good to be released on any musical platform but here it is lol (thank you Aitor for funding <3) open.spotify.com/album/4M6Uxwk8YMnvKcGeCBPVHW
