In Isaiah 59:19 we read these words:
"When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him."
Think for a moment about a flood. A flood is sudden. It doesn’t ask permission. The waters rise quickly, sweeping away everything in their path. And isn’t that how life feels sometimes?
One moment everything is calm, and the next you are flooded with anxiety, with bad news, with conflict at home, with fears about the future. Maybe it’s bills you can’t pay, health issues you didn’t expect, or disappointments that leave you crushed. These waves come suddenly, and they threaten to drown your peace and pull you under.
But Isaiah doesn’t end with the flood. He gives us a promise: “The Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him.”
