New video is live 🎮 "Why Ocarina of Time Is the Perfect Hero's Journey (And What the Remake Means for Us)"

Ocarina of Time basically wrote the blueprint for the Hero's Journey in gaming, and with the remake on the horizon, I wanted to dig into why that structure still hits so hard almost 30 years later. Link is the top of my channel, would love to hear your take on what the remake needs to get right.

Hey everyone —

Just wanted to drop in with a quick update and a little transparency about where I've been.

The new video — Why Grace Ashcroft Is the Best Hero's Journey in Resident Evil History — went live this week. It's a full psychological deep-dive into RE: Requiem through the lens of the Hero's Journey and clinical fear research. If you haven't watched it yet, the link is below. 👇

But I also wanted to be honest with you about something.

The last few months were heavily focused on rebuilding the foundation of this channel — a complete website relaunch, restructuring how I create and publish content, and getting the production system right so that videos come out more consistently and at a higher quality. That work is done now.

What that means going forward: I'm back to making videos regularly again, running live streams on Twitch and editing for YouTube side by side, and the two are going to start feeding each other. The games I play on stream will connect to the psychology content I create for YouTube. The analysis I do for videos will show up in conversations on stream. It's all one connected journey — just like the framework I write about.

I've missed being here consistently. And I'm genuinely excited about what's coming next.

Rest in Peace, Atsuko Tanaka (1963-2024)

The newest video on the channel features Bayonetta as the example of the Magician Archetype. However, we lost the Japanese Voice Actor that brought this character to life, Atsuko Tanaka, on the same day as the video release.

It is important to remember and honor the hard work it takes to bring our favorite characters to life. In my small way, I want to post my thanks for her work and how it connected with all of us.

My video for this week will be later than normal, but I have a good reason. My Keynote Address at the first annual Geek Ed Con went amazing!

Travel has been tough, but I will resume editing my first video on a The Last of Us topic next time I sit at my home PC.
