From a staff internship at the United Nations in New York at 19 to guiding individuals through healing and transformation today, my journey has always centered on growth, evolution, and empowerment.
I am Shai C (Shalini S. Chuganee) — a Skilled Emotionologist, Marriage & Family Therapist (MFT), and Certified Cognitive Behavioral Therapist (CBT), with over 4,000 hours of clinical experience in trauma recovery, relationship therapy, and emotional intelligence.
Currently, I’m pursuing my PhD in Clinical Sexology (Class of 2027), focusing on relational and sexual well-being. Through Shai C Consultancy, I help individuals, couples, and families heal, rebuild, and reconnect — combining evidence-based practice with empathy.
Beyond therapy, I mentor students in Model UN, debate, and academic growth. I’m also the author of Love That Was Meant for Me, a book on self-love, resilience, and emotional healing.

I never imagined that the story that once saved me
would one day be celebrated.
Love That Was Meant for Me is more than a book—
it’s my truth, my scars, my rebirth.
And today, being recognized by Writers Global 2025 reminds me that
every chapter we survive becomes a chapter we can offer the world.
Thank you for walking this path with me.
My heart is full. ❤️

Women are conditioned to be agreeable, accommodating, and endlessly available.
But real empowerment begins at the moment you decide: I matter too.
A boundary is not about pushing people away - it’s about honoring the space you need to stay whole.
This is a central truth explored in Love That Was… Meant for Me:
self-respect is the foundation of every healthy relationship.

We’ve glorified the “strong woman” for far too long - the one who never breaks, never cries, never pauses.
But real strength was never meant to be a performance.
It was meant to be a truth.
Strength is not the absence of emotion.
Strength is the courage to feel deeply and still choose yourself.
Every woman deserves the freedom to be soft, vulnerable, expressive - without the fear of being seen as “weak.”
Your strength is not in how much you endure, but in how much you honor yourself.
This is one of the core themes I explore in Love That Was… Meant for Me:
the shift from surviving to living, from self-silencing to self-honoring.
Read. Reflect. Reconnect.

It’s not just about hormones. It is all about identification, self-concept, vitality, and mood-setting.
Women had long been told to keep it secret, to bear it, to get through it without making noise, but silence isn’t strength. Awareness is.
Being an Emotionologist and specializing in trauma recovery, I cannot view menopause as an end, but a reintroduction. It is time to listen to your body, establish new limits and find your balance.
The emotional and hormonal wellness are highly entangled with each other and recognizing that link can help women go through this stage without fear but with empathy.
Menopause does not darken your robe. It changes its frequency.
And the change is worth being perceived, not rejected.

“Trauma doesn’t make you stronger; the power comes when you process the pain” – Shalini S. Chuganee
Trauma therapist and relationship expert Shalini Chuganee, known as Shai C., has returned to Mumbai as a triple-certified NY state therapist.
“No one is immune to stress, anxiety, challenges, or difficulties that arise in life,” says the renowned marriage and family therapist and cognitive behavioral therapist. With a deep understanding of emotional health and balance, she refers to herself as a skilled emotionologist.
Shai has a unique ability to help her clients manage their emotions by empowering them with the skills needed to overcome and adapt to life’s stressors. Through multiple talks and workshops in various cities, Shai has developed an effective approach that allows individuals to express their feelings positively and constructively. Employing a multisystemic approach to psychotherapy, she focuses on a combination therapy that includes spirituality and self-awareness as foundational elements. Understanding the psychology of the self is crucial for developing a goal-oriented balance of self-love and self-worth.
Focusing on the mental health and well-being of all individuals regardless of gender, Shai emphasizes the importance of self-discipline in thought and behavior patterns, as well as in interpersonal relationships. While validating our emotions is crucial, Shai insists we must also challenge the thoughts underlying those emotions, recognizing them as assumptions rather than facts.
Emotions play an informative role for the central nervous system; however, when the nervous system becomes deregulated, emotions can manifest reactively. As human beings, we are blessed with emotions; the key is to acknowledge and encourage them without losing control to them.
In her therapy sessions, Shai utilizes a method that dissects emotions into thoughts, feelings, sensations, and actions/behaviors. This approach helps individuals identify their emotional states and work through them to gain a better understanding of themselves, ultimately improving their quality of life by fostering healthier thought and behavior patterns and enhancing relationships, both with others and with oneself.
Emotional development comprises two key aspects: emotional intelligence and emotional maturity. While many psychologists focus on the release of emotions, Shai emphasizes the importance of processing unresolved trauma, particularly inner child trauma, through memory work and attachment theories.
Attachment styles and relationship dynamics are heavily influenced by the relationship between children and their caregivers from as early as the prenatal stage.
This new multi systemic model is widely adopted globally and supported by mental health advocates and practitioners alike. Shai aims to establish a robust foundation for this model in Mumbai, focusing not only on individual growth but also specializing in couples therapy, marriage and family therapy, and sex and intimacy coaching.
Points To Remember:
1. Importance of Emotion Processing: The article emphasizes that trauma and emotional challenges do not inherently make individuals stronger. Instead, true empowerment comes from actively processing and working through emotional pain and trauma. This highlights the significance of therapy in providing tools and guidance to manage and understand emotions effectively.
2. Holistic Approach to Mental Health: Shai C. employs a multisystemic approach to psychotherapy that integrates spirituality, self-awareness, and cognitive behavioral techniques. This holistic method not only addresses immediate emotional issues but also fosters long-term emotional intelligence and maturity. It underscores the idea that mental health encompasses various facets of life, including relationships, self-discipline, and self-worth.
3. Focus on Relationship Dynamics and Attachment: The article discusses the profound impact of early relationships on attachment styles and emotional development. Shai C. specializes in couples therapy and emphasizes the importance of understanding attachment theories in healing emotional dysregulation. This highlights the interconnectedness between personal emotional well-being and relational dynamics, promoting healthier connections with oneself and others.
