I’ve noticed I’ve been getting really low engagement on YouTube lately. It’s never been very high, but it’s been even less than usual recently, even though I think my last few videos have been above average in quality. It’s quite discouraging. I get higher engagement on TikTok, but the interactions tend to be shallow. There is no perfect balance.

I was thinking about doing a series where I read through every chapter of my book, “The Ecstasy and the Ignominy.” There are two ways I could it: I could just read on camera without edits. That would be the easiest way, but I could also do voiceover with the cover image and background sounds. That would be much more difficult and I’m not sure I would have the time for it. The return might not be worth the investment. I’m not the best at editing and it would take me forever. Either way, I’m not sure anyone would even be interested. People might tune in for chapter one, but chapter twenty? I don’t know. Let me know if you’re interested.

I posted my first YouTube video thirteen years ago yesterday. It’s sad I haven’t been more successful given that fact, although I didn’t start making author-related content until about six years ago. It started out as a channel where I made some short films based on my writing. I later became a movie review channel, but the interest faded. I experimented with doing comical edits and fake movie trailers. Finally, I became an author channel.

I’m curious to know how people who watch my channel identify politically. My viewers on TikTok definitely lean liberal, but I don’t have as clear of a picture on YouTube. I’ve tried to list as many options as possible, but they certainly aren’t exhaustive. Please choose the option that you identify with the most. I personally identify with the last option.
