Many people misunderstood Marx when he said that "Religion is the opium of the masses".

The truth is, Governments aren't afraid of Religion. They are merely afraid of losing control of it.

When you reach a certain level of power and influence, religion takes on new dimensions. The ultimate form of governance is realised through religious establishment and influence. Any system that can instil faith, inspire fear and guarantee control without direct observation or financial compensation - has to be carefully managed. It is both extremely potent and extremely dangerous.

Religion doesn't have to be a system of beliefs based on the supernatural, it can also be a set of beliefs based on material aspirations and world views. Materialism is one of the greatest modern religions, for example.

Religion has always been a powerful tool used by ruling elites to manage and control the masses. It's just a fact.

Imam Hasan Ibn Ali al-Barbahari (d..940 CE) was an Abbasid era revolutionary scholar who is famous for his scathing critique and anti-establishment revivalism against the Abbasid Caliphate.

ironically, Imam Al-Barbahari's influence and literary legacy has recently been revived in some Gulf states for another reason - for its emphasis on obedience to the ruling government and compliance with its orders.

The life and legacy of Al-Barbahari is a very conflicted and complicated one because on one end of the equation he was a very vocal and active critic of the Abbasid thrown, even raising a group of revolutionaries who shook the state with their campaigns and public demonstrations of discontent with how society was being corrupted. Yet, on the other end of the spectrum - the books now attributed to his pen (because there are differences of opinion about the authorship of such books) and staunchly anti rebellion and very strict in enjoining full compliance with government orders.

In the next episode of History Unlimited, I will be joined by the author and historian Habeeb Akande as we unpack the very interesting and pertinent topic of Zealotry within the Muslim world as well as the widespread government agenda to inspire and promote political Quietism within modern Muslim nations.

We have witnessed what happens when fringe elements from within the Muslim community device to challenge the state apparatus independently, as were the tragic case studies of Johayman al-Otaybi (Saudi Arabia) and Shukri Mustafa (Egypt), but are we witnessing a resurgence of this form of vigilantism within the modern Muslim community?

THE MUSLIM MUM IS A LIAR

Friends and associates are sending me posts by the Muslim Mum, supposedly about being blackmailed while pregnant.

It's an outright LIE and a vicious slander. The person behind this is none other than her criminal husband Addy-A-Game (Google the name).

I have remained silent for some time however it's incumbent to repel the lies.

This pornographer (Addy-A-Game) is the brains behind the Muslim Mum channel. He's been hiding behind his wife's fake Niqabi persona for the last 3 years as a front for hardcore red-pill indoctrination dressed as "anti-feminism" Dawah.

Recently, he and his wife have been spreading malicious and outrageous slander implying that I have been blackmailing them with "intimate pictures from 10 years, in an attempt to get them to shut their channel down". The lie has been so shameless and openly falsifiable that I didn't even bother to make a response video. My 2.5 hour long disclosure was sufficient for anyone with discernment and a functioning brain.

Recently, the trouble couple have been on a PR run to clean up their image in the hopes of rebranding themselves as "reverts" (another horrendous lie) rebranding themselves as an innocent couple who were targeted and blackmailed.

The reality is that Mr and Mrs are malicious, dangerous and deceptive liars who will stop at nothing to make a quick buck off the algorithm. Their entire channel is fake and built on a horrendous lie.

The husband claims to have repented from his Apostasy 5 years ago, yet only 2 years back he set his wife up to interview a known Pimp-Cult-Leader-Apostate (Saint and Sinner) on her channel. She was giggling like a schoolgirl and lavishing praise on this unsavoury character. Nothing strange, she was married to a failed rapper turned pornographer who apostasised from Islam, so it must have been familiar territory for her.

These are the sorts of characters masquerading as righteous and religious folk online, making it their business to judge and police Muslim women on a daily basis, while they hide their dirty secrets and pretend to be working in the interest of the Muslim community.

The Muslim Mum and her husband have worked very desperately to take my YouTube channel down, but to no avail. They have also filed a bogus police report for "blackmail" and tried to leverage their audience to report it to the police too.

I have posted a counter police report for online harassment and incitement.

Let nobody take these people as moral authorities or legitimate sources going forward. They are cowardly and malicious SLANDERERS who have absolutely no shame or honour. YouTube has literally cost them their dignity and is now exposing them for the malicious Slanderers that they are.

𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘𝗗𝗢𝗠 𝗢𝗙 𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗘𝗖𝗛

Everyone wants to claim their right to speak freely and openly, the Western standard now promoted globally as a marker of freedom, sophistication and human rights.

However

Not everyone is prepared to honour the basic premise of this "right".

As I grow older, I am more skeptical about the value of freedom of speech, especially among the laity.

Let me explain.

Freedom of speech comes with tacit and implicit conditions, it's not a carte blanche that permits us to express whatever we feel or verbalise whatever comes to our mind. This is a grave misunderstanding of the principle of "free speech".

No.

Free speech comes with a twin component, one that cannot be divorced or detached from the equation. That is, freedom to criticise and even offend others.

In order for speech to be truly "Free", one must be satisfied that their ideas and opinions will not be restricted or barred from public scrutiny.

This is the essence of "freedom of expression". Voltaire summarised it in the following quote

"I may disagree with the man, but I will fight to
death - to protect his right to express his ideas"

This does not mean one has to embrace or even endorse everything others are saying, however if we msut claim the absolute right to express our ideas - then we must protect other people's rights to do the same.

It's a two way street.

Aristotle added another angle to this when he said

"It is the mark of a well educated mind, to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it".


My observation of social media and public discourse is that these principles have yet to be realised by many. While we all want to champion our rights to speak and ideate in the public square, many seek to silence their opponents or revoke the right to an alternative perspective.

That's not how freedom of speech works.

The concept itself may be too abstract and elusive for some, especially those who are new to this cultural undercurrent. Hence why in many parts of the world, speech is controlled and censured.

The more I live and observe how many of us abuse and misconstrue the idea of "freedom", the more I am given to the age old tradition of censorship and strict control over what can be said publicly and who can say it.
