The DZ292 small block Chevy! The engine that never was built but could easily be the little brother to the legendary 302! Normally I start a project and show the finished product at the end of the video series. That being said, I am trying something new. I have been building a unique engine behind the scenes and starting at the end of April, there will be a lot of content on it. To kick off the video series, there will be an introduction video on April 23rd that explains the project and why I am building this engine. Just as a heads up, this is not some super expensive 1000 horsepower complex engine build. This is simply an old school small block using factory and aftermarket parts with a simple goal in mind, make more power than the 302 small block Chevy while being as close to spec as possible. Will I succeed? Only one way to find out, follow the video series that is coming soon!

I try to find humor in everything and always look on the brighter side of things. I was reading some comments this afternoon from the short I put out on the DZ292 engine build I am doing. Lo and behold an “expert” had to remind me this engine is a fantasy and the only 292 was the inline six Chevy. So, I did some math, as seen in the charts shown here. My 292 is a .060 over 283, I machined it myself and measured it many times. It is a 3.935 bore and a 3.00 stroke, which equals 291.87 cubic inches. I then looked up the 292 six cylinder, which is a 3.875 bore and a 4.125 stroke. That comes to 291.88 cubic inches. I had to laugh, my fantasy engine that doesn’t exist is a whopping .010 of an inch different from the “only” 292 Chevy engine made. Either I dreamed about building this engine, or I became an AI expert, but I am glad the “expert” set me straight 🤣🤣🤣

Wait until he sees my 311 cubic inch small block Chevy, that will make two fantasy engines I didn’t build, HA!

We all know Soldier Field in Chicago as the home of the Bears NFL football team. But did you know before that, auto racing was held there? Everything from midgets, IMCA stock cars, USAC, and even NASCAR. Racing was held there from the early 1940’s to the late 1960’s. Here’s something even more wild. Mr. Norm was known for his high performance dealership, Grand Spaulding Dodge. They pumped out super fast dyno tunes muscle cars and his AFX cars and funny cars were known across the country! But did you know that Grand Spaulding Dodge was also the official pace car sponsor for racing at Soldier Field in 1964? Pretty wild right?!?! Makes you wonder how much of the “win on Sunday and sell on Monday” came from roundy round racing…. Gotta love automotive history!

I added a couple more vintage decals to my collection, these are Nickey Chevrolet out of Chicago. They were a high performance dealership that was the goto place for Chevy muscle cars and performance parts. I really dig the front engine dragster they had, reminds me of mine!

I was working on my 311” small block Chevy ripper and overlooked something…. This block was tapped along the pan rail many moons ago for a main stud girdle. Just my luck, all 10 holes went to the water jacket. I got a bit creative for the fix. I used 1/2 inch long stainless steel set screws with some PTFE thread sealant and screwed them jn about 1/8” recessed. From there, I filled and leveled the top of the holes with metal reinforced JB weld epoxy that’s good up to 550 degrees. Sometimes you gotta think outside the box and get creative!

Check this out! I got some new specialty tools in today from WAF Racing. Pretty excited to use the carb cover pro, the spark plug holder, and the carb tuning screwdriver! These will definitely come in handy with my current small block Chevy engine builds and also on my tunnel ram fed 521” big block Ford. Expect to see these in some videos coming up this spring and summer! Stay tuned..

I have a lot of content on the way covering the 311” cubic inch small block Chevy ripper I’m building for my nostalgia front engine dragster. The build is being covered in detail and is coming along quite well! Stay tuned…
