I used to club-hop practically daily while rapping and promoting nightclubs in the mid-90s.

I would wake up at 4 pm, link up with my people, and hit the clubs.

I would practically force-drink blue ice teas - I did not like their aftertaste. Hennessy, E&J, and Alize were among my favorite drinks.

I would dance and talk with women, sometimes took one home or wrote down a couple of phone numbers to call them later.

I returned home around 4 am, slept, and did it again - at least five times a week.

This schedule was my routine up and down the East Coast, from New York City to Miami.

In Orlando, a friend advised me to stop.

A few days later, I practically drank a bottle of Alize - Cognac and passion fruit juice - by myself.

I took some of my last swigs of Ze in the parking lot and walked into a nightclub with a friend. My friend suggested that we split up; he would walk to the left, and I right.

Like I owned the place, I stepped on the dance floor to find a lady with whom to bump and grind and perhaps take home.

Less than five minutes later, I feel the blow on the back of my head, and I stumble.

I swung back, and I snuffed the dude who hit me. Then another fist connected the back of my head again.

I was trapped in this same cycle for about 10 minutes or so. I knocked some kid out, and then his girl punched me, yelling, "You hit my boyfriend!

I returned the blow.

I don't hit women, but she was physically attacking me. These people were trying to kill me.

Next thing you know, I believe the same girl is trying to bite my elbow off. I still have the scar above my elbow.

I yanked my arm out of her mouth and elbowed her.

I then exchange blows with two men, and I end up grappling with one on the ground while other people are kicking and stomping on me.

Finally, security guards separated everybody, and one helped me up.

My friend caught up to me and hurried me out of the door because the police were coming. A cop grabbed me and asked me what happened.

I told him I got jumped. The cops had about 10 men standing in a circle and told me to identify the people who hit me.

A few of them had their shirts off. One I distinctly remember had an Orlando Magic jersey on.

I knew I fought all of them, but I did not want to snitch on anybody. I tried to handle the issue myself.

I had a Nike logo on my forehead, and my friend told me I urinated in the sink. The next day, I swam in the winter-chilled swimming pool and got over my hangover.

I got into this situation because I did not know what to do with my life. If I had educated myself and learned how to operate emerging technologies like email and the World Wide Web, I would have probably learned how to make money selling offers through newsletters like the one on which I originally sent this story.

I would not have had the need to travel state to state to try to make money promoting clubs and hanging out with knuckleheads.

We can avoid life-threatening, violent, and crazy unfortunate situations in our environments by constantly educating ourselves and developing skills that help us achieve our benevolent objectives.

Before I knew the following Proverbs were in the scripture, following my path to seek higher learning helped save me from practically everything I describe in this story.

"My son, if thou wilt receive my words, And hide my commandments with thee; So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, And apply thine heart to understanding; Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, And liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, And searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, And find the knowledge of God. For the LORD giveth wisdom: Out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: He is a buckler to them that walk uprightly. He keepeth the paths of judgment, And preserveth the way of his saints. Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, And equity; yea, every good path. When wisdom entereth into thine heart, And knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; Discretion shall preserve thee, Understanding shall keep thee: To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, From the man that speaketh froward things; Who leave the paths of uprightness, To walk in the ways of darkness; Who rejoice to do evil, And delight in the frowardness of the wicked; Whose ways are crooked, And they froward in their paths: To deliver thee from the strange woman, Even from the stranger which flattereth with her words; Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, And forgetteth the covenant of her God. For her house inclineth unto death, And her paths unto the dead. None that go unto her return again, Neither take they hold of the paths of life. That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, And keep the paths of the righteous. For the upright shall dwell in the land, And the perfect shall remain in it. But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, And the transgressors shall be rooted out of it."

Translating the Book of Proverbs into Greek as part of the Septuagint is well-documented in historical and biblical scholarship. The Septuagint was the first significant translation of the Hebrew Scriptures, undertaken by Jewish scholars in Alexandria, Egypt, during the 3rd and 2nd centuries BCE. This translation was crucial for the Hellenistic Jewish community and later for early Christians, as Greek was the lingua franca of the time.
