Finished watching the Hazbin Hotel Season 2 Finale and phew! That was one hell of a ride! (Pun intended)
Also the reason why I didn't make a review after the first 2 episodes of seaosn 2 is because I want to watch the whole season before giving my full thoughts.
(Spoilers below)
Where do I begin? The animation is solid, the voice acting is great and the musics are PEAK! My #1 favorite song in season 2 is Gravity, tho the other songs are amazing too. Now, onto the show. The backstories of Alastor, Sir Pentious and Vox and what was their sins or ehat they looked like when they were alive were very interesting. Vaggie's shirt backstory with that one exorcist felt out of nowhere and sort of unnecessary. Idk how I feel about that. Most of the characters are well written, like the Vees. I hate them even more in this season than season 1, but I guess that's how you write good antagonist(s), tho I will say they do have funny moments. Sera has a good redemption writing after the genocide of sinners for 7 years. Lute is going more insane and I'm wonder of how she'll be handled in the next season. I like Abel's character, he's a chill dude. I feel bad for Angel. Hopefully the dude breaks free from Valentino's contract someday. Alastor's plan was very tricky to figure out until the season finale and the FIGHT SCENES ARE PEAKS, even the climax is heartwarming and peak. I even like that Emily has a big role in this season. Her and Charlie are like sweet cinnamon bun sisters 🥺 Tho, I will admit that Charlie keeps making questionable decisions this season. Anyways, for the new character, Baxter, I was wonder what his role would be since he barley did anything through the season until ep 7 & 8. And in the finale, Charlie's mother, Lilith...finally...picked up...the phone, after 7 years. (Maybe? We'll have to see in season 3)
Now for the criticisms; The pacing feels short, which I understand if they didn't have enough budget to add more episodes to fix the pacing, but yeah, the pacing feels weird. Vox wanting to become a god just felt random and out of nowhere. Abel barley did anything in the finale. Sure he stopped Lute from killing sinners, but I feel like he could've done more. Since episode 2, we never see Lute talk to her hallucination of Adam again. Feels odd that was a one time thing. Episode 4 do show us more character lore about Alastor, Vox and Rosie, but it feels like it's showing us information, but also not, at the same time. (WHAT IS ROSIE'S MOTIVE AND WHY DID SHE SENT ALASTOR TO THE HOTEL?! Sorry. Ahem!) The fact that the extermination happened for 7 years feels pretty weird to me. I feel like it would've made more sense if it happened centuries ago. Also the Lute vs Vaggie round 2 (or 3? I don't know) during the finale was too short. Maybe they'll fight again in season 3. Who knows? Lucifer was captured and never even got to help in the finale this time, sadly and unfortunately the Vees don't get their comeuppance.
Overall, I give this season an 8/10. I also want to say congrats to @SpindleHorse for making their indie animated show into a streaming series. Very cool stuff 👏 Looking forward to see more of what they have in store in the future.
(P.S Don't let any children watch this until they're older)
