Two albums here both from 1985 one from the UK called Real Macabre there are absolutely no credits or band members listed. The cover is just a white textured sleeve with a sticker on the front that says “This is Emotion”. It’s rather unfortunate, because this could easily have been a big club hit in the 80s Surely this band’s noisy-yet-tuneful brand of dark (but quite poppy) goth rock has widespread appeal. Fans of Look Back in Anger, Asmodi Bizaar, and Siouxsie and the Banshees will certainly enjoy both mixes of Emotion and from the US a one man band from San Francisco named My Sin self-released this EP on Endless Music label. The band is a mix of darkwave, deathrock, and synthpop on these releases. Using only bass, synths, and drums (no guitars, apparently), this one-man band created some dark, gloomy, angry, and lyrically quite bitter music. He starts with excellent covers of the Stones (Moonlight Mile) and the Stooges (I Need Somebody) on one side of the 12", and all other songs are his own. If you like your darkwave and deathrock infused with a good deal of melodrama is EP is right up your alley.
E-Man was a lone album released in 1984 by Norwegian artist Geir Jenssen. The album itself is new wave/synth-pop in style with elements of minimal wave, electro and ambience in the vein of Snowy Red, Makis Prekkas and Nine Circles.
Self-released in 1985 on Last Records, Distant Thunder was a one-man band that consists of completely amateur programmed drums, stabs of synths, dissonent and atonal electronics, and repetitive guitars and vocals by Mark Wenning the man behind the project.
The Show were a German band who released their sole 12"/7" on a small Spanish label, Pasarela. The Show's use of synths, great dark guitar hooks, and drum machines puts them in good company, reminding me of dark post-punk bands like Red Lorry Yellow Lorry and BFG.
Dargaard's Eternity Rites from 1999 is an epic, synthesized symphonic darkwave. An orchestra's worth of keyboard voices, angelic, reverb-drenched singing, and black metal-style rasps.
