Stackhouse Knives is passionate about the revival of blacksmithing and knife making in New Zealand!
The core of our business is education, we deliver classes in blacksmithing, knife making and Damascus steel to the Wellington region. This feeds back into our goals of continuing the practice and supporting the community. If you're interested in learning more we host a Knife Makers Meets (or two) annually, we have a facebook group for sharing work and we supply blacksmithing/knife making equipment including forges, anvils, hammers and tong.
Our personal working ranges from high end damascus steel kitchen knives to sculptural work, it can be purchased directly through our website or our local stockists.

The Oni and the red panda
On one side, shrouded in near pitch-black darkness, the red panda gazes at the moon mesmerized by its light, completely unaware of his surroundings.
On the other side, the moon shapeshifts to show an unsightly creature - the fierce Oni - and on closer inspection—are those merely leaves from a bamboo tree… or hands reaching out, ready to snatch him away forever?
Creating the smallest of expressions on the characters’ faces was a challenge.
The balance was delicate: making one figure feel innocent and endearing while allowing the other to embody something truly ominous.
I'm very pleased with the outcome,
this project took up most of my spare working time and took just under 400 hours, just over a year's worth of work.
please tell me what you enjoyed about the build and comment down below.

Hello everyone,
Another journey around the sun comes to an end.
For some it's a welcome ending, an exciting start to the new year, ready for discovery and adventure.
For others its just another day, chugging through work and life struggles.
Or perhaps you know what January brings but feel totally unprepared for it?
I'm feeling a bit like all three right now.
My creative journey this year has been an interesting combination of struggle and excitement, my annual project has been the most fun I've had since I started these and I can't wait to share it with you.
However, you may notice my normal new years eve deadline has come and gone... In contrast to the rest of the year December was crazy busy, between classes and events I've been stealing daylight to complete my project, but I can only survive so many 3am nights in a row.
I'm hoping to complete 'last years' build in the next few weeks, as I work furiously to this deadline, here's a little sneak peak at what I've been doing...
