On January 18th of this year, we uploaded our project about Anthony Kiedis after working on it for nearly six months. We didn’t expect much to come of it, since it was the very first upload on the channel. It was a passion project we created in our free time. Growing up as fans of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Anthony Kiedis, we wanted to make something that told Kiedis’s story from a standpoint of empathy, but without pulling punches when it came to the more controversial parts.
For the first couple of weeks, it was just that: a video lounging on a YouTube channel with very little views. But then the notification came: “You’ve reached 100,000 views!” Overnight, the interest in our video looked less like a curve and more like an elevator going straight up. That elevator carried our hopes of being able to create more features, full-time, as we were accepted into Youtube's Adsense program. Over the next month, we passed the 1 million view mark.
In March, deep into production on our next project, another notification arrived: “Adsense Partnership disabled.” Ending our ability to earn revenue from the channel. Over the next few months, we appealed several times, but to no avail. Every attempt to find out exactly what we had done to violate policy was met with a vague list of possible infractions, never a clear explanation of what actually happened or why our once-active partnership was disabled. Any effort to speak with a human at Google was met with a firm “We can’t give any information.” We have never engaged in any type of activities that would violate any terms. We seem to only be guilty of sharing a story that people want to see.
Delinquent Films is a passion project for us. We have many other stories we would like to tell, and being banned from the partnership program has put on hold any hopes of being able to afford spending even more time on new projects. With the appeal system stonewalling us, we’ve decided to take two actions to ensure our stories still have the opportunity to be seen.
First, we will launch a new YouTube channel under the same name. This channel will house all of our current and future documentaries and additional content. We’re currently in the latter half of post-production for a new documentary. Trailer coming soon.
Second, we will launch a Patreon for those who wish to support us and be involved in the production process. Patreon members will have the opportunity to vote on the next subject, help audition voiceover artists, view early releases, and more. This will be coming soon so keep a look out!
We want to thank you for the support you have shown us and hope to navigate through this and bring you tons of more content in the future!
We want to extend our sincere gratitude to all who tuned into our first project. Your warm feedback has bolstered our commitment to highlight the intricate stories that often lie beneath the surface of everyday news. By focusing on the nuance that many overlook, we hope to inspire a richer conversation. Our next project is already in the works, and we’ll be dropping some previews soon. Thank you for your support.
