GRIP AND SOUND PRODUCTION Grip is a mechanical system of energy transmission. It doesn't define just how the drum is held, but how the movement is organized, how pressure is administered, and how much kinetic information really gets to the drum. The sound is a direct consequence of that organization. EXCESS PRESSURE The flu closes when the pressure of the thumb against the index is constant and high. Fingers stop regulating and move to fixing. The drumstick loses rotational capacity and the rebound is dampened. Consequence: Interrupted acceleration, reduced finish speed and limited patch vibration. The sound becomes short, opaque and without harmonic development.
*HOW TO FIX IT: Reduce basal pressure and allow microvariations. Thumb controls, not squeezes. If the drumstick can't bounce freely, the system is over-determined.
*OPEN FLU: An open grip is a functional grip. The index thumb point sets reference, while the fingers accompany the bounce and the wrist conveys weight and direction. Movement completes its course and energy arrives without blocks.
*CONTACT MANAGEMENT: Pressure is not constant: it appears and disappears at the moment of the gesture. Post-contact release is just as important as arrival. When the system releases, the sound expands.
*KEY VARIABLES: – Variable pressure vs. fixed pressure – Full course vs. shortened gesture – Active bounce vs. cushioned bounce – Hanging Doll vs. rigid doll Each of these variables directly alter the resulting sound spectrum.
*MISTAKES : - Press to "ensure accuracy". – Locking fingers for stability. – Cut the course before impact. – Hold tension after contact.
*HOW TO FIX THEM: – Allow the drumstick to return alone – Use your fingers as regulators, not brakes – Let the gesture end after contact – Release tension immediately after execution Technique does not add force. Eliminate the interference. An efficient grip makes no sound: it allows the instrument to release it.

GRIP AND SOUND PRODUCTION
Grip is a mechanical system of energy transmission. It doesn't define just how the drum is held, but how the movement is organized, how pressure is administered, and how much kinetic information really gets to the drum. The sound is a direct consequence of that organization.
EXCESS PRESSURE
The flu closes when the pressure of the thumb against the index is constant and high. Fingers stop regulating and move to fixing. The drumstick loses rotational capacity and the rebound is dampened.
Consequence: Interrupted acceleration, reduced finish speed and limited patch vibration. The sound becomes short, opaque and without harmonic development.
*HOW TO FIX IT:
Reduce basal pressure and allow microvariations. Thumb controls, not squeezes. If the drumstick can't bounce freely, the system is over-determined.
*OPEN FLU:
An open grip is a functional grip.
The index thumb point sets reference, while the fingers accompany the bounce and the wrist conveys weight and direction.
Movement completes its course and energy arrives without blocks.
*CONTACT MANAGEMENT:
Pressure is not constant: it appears and disappears at the moment of the gesture.
Post-contact release is just as important as arrival.
When the system releases, the sound expands.
*KEY VARIABLES:
– Variable pressure vs. fixed pressure
– Full course vs. shortened gesture
– Active bounce vs. cushioned bounce
– Hanging Doll vs. rigid doll
Each of these variables directly alter the resulting sound spectrum.
*MISTAKES :
- Press to "ensure accuracy".
– Locking fingers for stability.
– Cut the course before impact.
– Hold tension after contact.
*HOW TO FIX THEM:
– Allow the drumstick to return alone
– Use your fingers as regulators, not brakes
– Let the gesture end after contact
– Release tension immediately after execution
Technique does not add force.
Eliminate the interference.
An efficient grip makes no sound: it allows the instrument to release it.
We keep going. Always.
