So Illumination came out with a teaser for their upcoming original movie 'NOT ALONE' yesterday, and I have thoughts...
It seems like the discourse is mostly the same online, with most people loving the first 90% of the trailer, and I have to agree (although I disagree with the thoughts on the little aliens part). Most of the trailer does a great job portraying a more mature romance between two adults working at a space station. It's cute, some of the scenes are gorgeous, and it even has Ghibli-like scenes, like the female protagonist looking out the window of a bus/car while it's raining out (with no dialogue or extra stimulation). Instead of high-octane constant stimulation, it seems like this movie actually has moments of pause and reflection, which is necessary for it to feel more mature and adult.
The music choice in the trailer is phenomenal, and it gives me vibes of Wildwood's trailer as well, in how they used one song throughout it. Yes I would obviously prefer a different visual style, but this is clearly illumination's style, and if the story is great the style doesn't matter as much. Tbh the first 90% of the trailer made me think I was watching Pixar, not Illumination, which just goes to show how well they've done.
That being said...let's get to the little alien creatures. Yes, I am obviously worried by that part. BUT, the creatures seem genuinely hilarious, and not in a minion type way. Everyone's freaking out, but comedy in a movie isn't necessarily bad, what matters is the type of comedy and how it's used. The fact that they all have British accents is briliant, and could lead to witty or dry British humor. The fact that most of the trailer is the more mature romance, gives me a sense that a large part of the movie will still be that vibe, because it makes no sense to shift the tone so aggressively mid-way through a movie. If they use comedy sparingly and intelligently, while still keeping the majority of the movie a more serious/mature tone, this could be a fucking BANGER of a movie. Some of the best DreamWorks and Pixar movies have a ton of comedy, but it's used well. Let's hope that Illumination took a page out of their book for this one
Thoughts on DreamWorks' new Forgotten Island trailer?
imo the animation looked AMAZING. Absolutely loved the blend of styles, and there definitely seems to be some KPDH influence in the way they animated certain sequences, which I'm a big fan of. The comedy was on point too. Not too convinced about the story just yet though, not gonna lie. That being said, this movie definitely looks unique stylistically.
I have a ton of video ideas but I'd love to get your feedback on the type of videos you'd like ♥️ thanks for all the awesome support on the last couple of videos by the way, genuinely makes me super happy 🥹
Cartoon Saloon just released the first look at their next movie, Julian!
It honestly looks GORGEOUS! The water animation is incredible and the art style in general is so vibrant and pretty. The water is giving me Ponyo vibes honestly. It's supposed to be releasing this year, with the first showing happening at Annecy later this month. Go check out the first clip!

An animated rom-com??? SIGN ME UP
I hope they lean more into the romance instead of making it super comedic like most illumination movies are.
