Hey Sweeties! ๐ŸŸฆ๐ŸŽ—๏ธ
I was just thinking of something I read a few years ago, about the laws of levirate marriage. (When, in a hetero marriage, the husband dies and there's no heir. If he has a brother, the brother is supposed to marry the widow, if she agrees. The first offspring of the union counts as the first husband's kid.) I remember it was talking about what men are excused or not excused from (offering to be in a) levirate marriage. I had to reread it several times, because I thought I was misunderstanding. But if the deceased man's brother is trans (ftm) he is *not* excused from this tradition!
Why is this a good thing, and who cares anyway?
Because a trans man can't impregnate his wife. But the marriage itself provides the wife with a protected legal status. Remember, this was a time and place that women had few, if any, rights. So it may LOOK like she is no more than a vessel, but the fact that a trans man can be the husband means 1) Halacha says trans rights! 2) women are more than just a uterus.
Going into Pride Month, remember that religion is a way to celebrate who and what we are. If your religious tradition isn't allowing that, it may be time to look for something more life affirming. Either way, you are valid and loved!

It's Mother's Day here in the US. Thank you to my three kids, without whom I wouldn't be a mama! Happy Mother's Day to all of the moms. Biological, adoptive, step (looking at you, Jeannette) honorary (looking at you, Polly) bonus, and any other kind of mom. You're all valid! ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ’–
This is a picture I took of myself and my daughter the other day. It's not the best, but at the time, I didn't know she'd give me the go-ahead to post it! We're working toward living under the same roof again sometime soon.
Whoever you are, whether being a parent is for you or not, you are valid!

Hey Sweeties! ๐ŸŸฆ๐ŸŽ—๏ธ
So, many things are not good right now. In my own life, and in the bigger picture. But some things are starting to look up, at least a little bit. Also in my own life as well as the bigger picture.
Dr. Abraham Low said "Nervous people hate routine and fear change." He was correct! I'll soon be getting used to a new neighborhood. Still car-dwelling, unfortunately. For now. When something bigger and/or better is confirmed, I'll share. Meanwhile, despite (gestures all around vaguely ) I'm feeling more hopeful now than I have in months.
Sending virtual mama hugs to you all!
Chag Pesach Sameach! ๐Ÿซ“

Hey Sweeties! ๐ŸŸฆ๐ŸŽ—๏ธ
Lots of days feel like an emotional rollercoaster right now. But today was mostly nice. Among other things, one of my neighbors in the Safe Parking Program gave me this flower, and said something about me being nice. (I frequently joke about myself being a raving b*tch, and this caught me off guard!)
Anyway, this reminded me to be kinder in how I think/refer to myself. So let this post be YOUR reminder to be kind in how you think/refer to yourself! We are all fallible beings, doing our best each day. And we are all valid and loved.

Tomorrow (March 31st) is Trans Day of Visibility. To all my lovely trans beans out there, I see you, I love you, and I support you! I guarantee, you have more allies than you realize! Stay strong and stay safe. Existence is resistance.

In case you needed to hear it from outside of your own head, you matter. There is a reason why you are here in this world, even if you're not sure right now what that reason is. You are important and relevant. You are a precious spark of the Divine. You are valid and loved.

Hey Sweeties! ๐ŸŸฆ
We just celebrated Purim. The story takes place in ancient Persia. It starts with a courageous queen (Vashti) who stood up to her husband the king, after he made an immodest request of her. Later, the Jewish population of Persia was saved by another courageous queen (Esther) when she told her husband the king that she was Jewish, and his advisor (Haman) had planned to k*ll all of her people.
My favorite abbreviated version of the story, is: They tried to k*ll us all. We won. Let's eat.
There are still people now, who would get rid of us all, if they could. We. Will. Always. Win.
Whether this story is part of your history or not, we are connected. We all deserve to live our lives, freely and authentically. We are ALL valid and loved!

Hey Sweeties! ๐ŸŸฆ
I was going to create a quiz, but it's late and my chumash is under "the mountain" of stuff in my van. And *I will NOT post specific Torah content without double checking the facts first!*
Please talk me into doing the quiz, for next time, in the comments! In fact, what kind of things would you be interested in getting quizzed on?
Better yet, I'm thinking of a non-clergy version of the game"Stump the Rabbi" because I'm not a rabbi. We can call it "Stump the Torah Nerd," I guess. Ask me something from the Torah that you think I won't be able to answer. Go ahead, MAKE me look something up!
Whether you are a nerdy bean or not, you are valid and loved!

Just a reminder that your personal life and The Big Pictureโ„ข๏ธ are two separate things, even though you experience both. Even though many big things stink right now, some things in your own life can still improve. And don't feel guilty about that (a very long standing habit of mine) just appreciate it. You are absolutely allowed to have good happen for you!
Whichever direction things are going, you are valid and loved!
