How are you doing? Are you and your family safe? What is the weather like where you are right now?
We truly hope that wherever you are watching from, life is peaceful and that the people you care about are doing well.

Lately, though, it feels as if every time we turn on the television or scroll through the news, we see another story about floods, wildfires, earthquakes, landslides, or extreme weather somewhere in the world.

In Nepal, catastrophic flash floods at the end of August tore through Himalayan valleys, destroying villages, roads, and hydropower facilities. More than one thousand people were reported dead, while thousands more were still missing.

In Indonesia, wildfires have spread under severe drought and extreme heat. In China, heavy rain and storms have triggered floods and landslides, forcing many people to leave their homes. In other parts of the world, communities are also facing fires, storms, droughts, and disasters that can change an ordinary life in only a few minutes.

And after seeing so many of these images, we just wanted to stop for a moment and talk with you — not as a documentary channel, but simply as people sharing the same planet.

Because behind every number in the news is a real person.

A house swept away is not simply a building that has been lost. It may have been the place where a family lived for generations. A road destroyed by a landslide may leave an entire village isolated. A flooded field can take away a family’s livelihood long after the water has disappeared.

And perhaps the hardest part is that a disaster does not truly end when the floodwaters recede, the ground stops shaking, or the flames are extinguished.

There are still families who have to begin again from nothing. Children who cannot return to school. People waiting for news of loved ones. Communities trying to rebuild in places where the landscape itself may no longer feel safe.

Maybe that is why we have been hearing the same phrase more and more often lately:

“Mother Nature is angry.”

But do you think nature is really angry?

Perhaps nature does not feel anger in the way people do. But something is changing around us. Rising temperatures are accelerating ice loss, drought is making some landscapes more vulnerable to fire, and extreme weather is placing more pressure on communities already living in fragile environments.

Sometimes it feels as if the places we once thought were permanent are becoming less certain.

Mountains can collapse. Rivers can suddenly change course. Forests can burn. A peaceful valley can become unrecognizable overnight.

And yet, in almost every disaster, we also see something else.

People helping strangers. Rescue workers entering places others are trying to escape. Families sharing food and water. Communities rebuilding homes, schools, roads, and eventually, their everyday lives.

That may be one of the most powerful things about being human.

We cannot control every storm, earthquake, flood, or fire.

But we can still care about the people standing in their path.

So wherever you are today, if your home is safe, if your family is nearby, and if tonight is simply an ordinary night, perhaps that is already something worth being grateful for.

And to everyone currently living through floods, earthquakes, wildfires, storms, landslides, droughts, or any other disaster, we hope the difficult days pass soon. We hope those waiting for news receive good news. We hope homes can be rebuilt, families can be reunited, and ordinary life can return.

Sometimes, ordinary life is the greatest thing people can ask for.
