NEW VIDEO! In this episode we head out to the tiny West Virginia town of Whitesville. Only about 300 or so people living around there, but the town has an interesting story - and it's also the location of the worst mining disaster of the past 50 years. You never know who you'll meet here on Youtube! From my Pennington Gap video I got an email from the man, the legend BARRY AUDIA himself! What a gentleman and what a pleasant surprise! If I'm out that way again I'm gonna get in touch with him and treat him to coffee and lunch (if he lets me, he'll probably insist on treating)... How cool it would be to hear his stories!

Hey guys - got a new video for you all! This is a good one... I went to Oceana, West Virginia which became somewhat well-known from the 2013 documentary 'Oxyana' which documented the town's extreme struggle opioids and overdoses. If you're a channel member, you already know about the bad situation I found myself out there! Here's the link to the video: https://youtu.be/zkeHFvAznlo

NEW VIDEO! We finally made it to the legendary Pocahontas (Tazewell County, Virginia). This place was well known for its high quality 'smokeless' coal and the first coalmine of the Pocahontas coalfields opened in 1882. It had its day in the spotlight but nowadays it has experienced a major fall from grace - that doesn't make it any less interesting though! This is a place that you have to see! NEW VIDEO! Let's go explore an Appalachian Ghost Town! Originally this place was built as a company town for the Jewell Ridge Coal Corporation but in the 1980s it faced a 100% population collapse. Come see the haunting scenes and hear why this happened! Link here: https://youtu.be/dEMhV417RZ4

Hey there friends - if you didn't catch my most recent upload swing on by and give it a gander! In this one we stop by Grundy, Virginia and explore the town that was literally relocated due to repeatedly getting washed out by floods. It also happens to be home to one of the greats of country music who unfortunately died far too early. What it gets most attention for these days is the fact that it's a town literally centered around Walmart, but not just any Walmart - a gigantic one that is one of the main economic drivers of the town, a 3-story building built on the side of a mountain.
