My "In the Car with Des" mini-grief series is officially complete! In today's episode (part 6), I'm addressing how unpredictable grief can look, giving yourself (and others) grace for their grief process, plus ideas for ways to honor your loved one's death in a way that gives back to others while filling your heart.

I'm no grief expert or grief counselor, just a girl who misses her mom and has found the value in sharing the lessons that helped me and hopefully someone else.

It's amazing how the lessons we learn in the past often come full circle to help us in the present. With God, nothing is ever wasted. Remember, you are not alone. Thanks for being here.

🌿 "You will always harvest what you plant"

You know what? It's so easy to pick and choose the "feel-good" parts of the Bible and miss the context from which they originated. I've been taught that you should read at least a couple of sentences before and after the verse (better yet, the whole chapter) to get a broader understanding of what is being said. I made this painting several years ago with another thought in mind. But after revisiting this scripture now and reading further, I recognize the message God wants me to be reminded of and take to heart. So here it is below.

Which verse is tugging at your heart? And what will you do about it?

📖 Galatians 6:7-9, NIV
7) "Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. 8) Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. 9) So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. 10) Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith."

This morning when I first passed this sign, it said in bright blue lights, "Be intentional with your focus and energy." It was such a timely message that I turned right around to take a photo of it. Yet when I got there, it was blank on both sides 🤷🏾‍♀️ Then a few seconds later, as I'm typing the message in my notes app, I get a text from TECO saying there was an outage at home nearby. Then the church down the street had their electric sign going, displaying peace messages and the scripture, "Blessed are the peacemakers," another very timely message.

God truly is an on-time God. He may not answer when or how you want Him to, but He does. And if we're not keeping our eyes and heart open to see when and how He's responding, just like that ::snaps finger:: we'll miss His yes, His no, or His warning.

God is always speaking... are you listening?

☝🏾One thing about DeKelis and me is that 9 times out of 10, we’re finding a way to share some encouragement, inspiration, and faith. It’s in my blood—literally, I’ve even got a positive in my blood type! 🤣

​And that other 1/10? We’re leaving space for the real stuff. We’re taking time to feel what we need to feel, seek the Lord, and just embrace the messy parts of being human so we can let our cups get refilled.

​I’ve learned there’s a time and place for everything (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8). Some days and seasons are just dark, and it’s okay if you can’t see the silver lining right away. Just know that whenever you're ready for a little breath of fresh air or a glimmer of light, Jesus is right there, and DeKelis and I are here for you, too 💖

Sometimes you just gotta faith it 'til you make it! Bold faith comes in all shapes, colors, and sizes. It doesn't mean you always step forward without shaky knees, trembling hands, and uncertainty. Sometimes it means choosing to believe somehow, some way, God's got your back and He's going to work it all out - especially when you're facing the impossible. 🏆When the team feels valued, everything else just flows better.
