They finally cleared the tunnel under the tomb of Seti I, all 174 meters of it, and found no hidden chamber at the bottom. Just a blank wall.
So here's the question nobody can answer: why did the ancient Egyptians cut a staircase 174 meters into a mountain and then stop? A second secret burial chamber they never finished? A sacred shaft dug down toward underground water, like Seti's cenotaph at Abydos? Or did they just hit bad rock and give up?
