🀯 Did You Know?

01 February - Release of Intel 80286 Microprocessor

On this day in 1982, Intel introduced the 80286 microprocessor, also called the 286.

It was a major leap forward in computer performance and capability since it helped transform personal computers from simple machines into powerful business and productivity tools.

It was the first Intel CPU to support protected mode, allowing computers to use more memory safely and efficiently.

The 80286 could address up to 16 MB of memory β€” huge at a time when most PCs used far less.

This processor laid the groundwork for modern operating systems by introducing better memory management and system stability.

🀯 Did You Know?

30 January - Elk Cloner - the first PC virus

On this day in 1982, a high school student named Richard Skrenta wrote Elk Cloner, widely recognized as the first computer virus to spread in the wild.

It infected Apple II computers through floppy disks and secretly copied itself to other disks when used.

Instead of damaging the system, it displayed a playful poem on the screen after the 50th boot, making it more of a prank than a cyberattack.

Even though it was harmless, Elk Cloner marked the beginning of self-replicating malware, paving the way for the cybersecurity challenges we face today.

29 January – Puzzle Day

This day connects computer science closely since both rely on logic, pattern recognition, and step-by-step problem solving.

Solving puzzles trains the brain to think analytically, break big problems into smaller parts, and test different solutions β€” the same approach used in coding, algorithms, debugging, and software development.
