I would like to inform you that our Midnight Prayer sessions will be temporarily paused for the months of August and September. Due to my current work commitments, I am working night shifts during this period, which makes it difficult for me to consistently host our midnight prayers.

By the grace of God, we will resume our Midnight Prayer sessions in October.

I sincerely appreciate your understanding, prayers, and continued support. Let us remain committed to prayer individually and continue seeking the face of God even during this brief break.

May the Lord continue to strengthen, protect, and keep each one of you.

“Dad, at my age, what was your struggle in life?” — a question I asked my father some time ago.

I once had an honest conversation with my biological father. I asked him, “Dad, at my age, what were you struggling with?”

I wanted to understand certain patterns within my family. He was open enough to share his journey, his struggles, his victories, and the battles he faced at the age I am now. After listening, I asked him another question: “What is something you never struggled with at my age, yet many of your peers did?” The story is long.

I was tracing my life against his timeline because there was something I wanted to understand about my family patterns.

As he narrated some of the struggles he experienced at my age, it felt as though he was telling my own story. Some of the things he overcame, I am also facing. And when he spoke about the good things that happened in his life, it sometimes felt as though he was describing opportunities that were preparing to come into mine.

For the past few days, I have been reading and observing beautiful conversations from my fellow brothers in the Lord, as well as from our seniors, about bloodlines, generational patterns, and family history.

My father was honest enough to tell me about the battles he fought, izimpi azinqoba nezanginqoba. And when my son is old enough, I want to have the same honest conversation with him. I want to tell him about the battles I overcame and the ones that overcame me—not to create fear, but to help him understand where he comes from and perhaps recognise patterns before they repeat themselves.

Because sometimes, certain family surnames become associated with particular behaviours or patterns, and people can say, “Kuthiwa nje inkani kulesi bongo”—as if certain things are simply part of the family identity.

But then comes the question that has been on my mind:

Does salvation completely nullify the history and patterns of a family? If it does, how?

And perhaps understanding our history is not about being bound by it, but about recognising what must end with us so that it does not continue to the next generation.

If our fathers can be honest about their failures, we can learn from them as the younger generation. Pretending they never failed only teaches us to hide our own failures—and eventually lie to the generation after us.
