MegaBuild Projects

Welcome to MegaBuild Projects – where Construction Meets Finance.

Most people see the world's biggest megaprojects. We follow the money behind them.
This channel breaks down the costs, funding, economics, and financial performance of the world's largest construction and infrastructure projects. From billion-dollar skyscrapers and mega bridges to airports, railways, smart cities, and megaproject failures, we analyze who paid for them, why they were built, who profits from them, and whether they were actually worth the investment.

I am Ojonugwa Shaibu, a Quantity Surveyor and a construction cost professional. I go beyond traditional construction documentaries to uncover the business side of infrastructure development, including:

• Megaproject Finance
• Infrastructure Investment
• Construction Costs
• Cost Overruns
• Project Funding
• Public-Private Partnerships (PPP)
• Construction Economics
• Project Feasibility
• Quantity Surveying Insights
• Contractor and Developer Economics

🌇 Did you know?
The Burj Khalifa is so tall that you can watch the sunset twice in one day! 🌞➡️🌞
Here’s how:
When the sun sets at ground level, it’s gone for everyone down below. But if you take an elevator to the top floors, you’re so high above the ground that your view of the horizon changes— and boom, the sun pops back into sight for a few extra minutes before setting again.
That’s how powerful height and Earth’s curve are. In fact, during Ramadan, people at the top of the tower break their fast later than those on the ground floor!
🏙️ Burj Khalifa isn’t just the tallest building… it literally lets you chase the sunset twice a day. 🌍✨

The Hoover Dam doesn’t just hold back a little water — it stores an enormous amount in Lake Mead, the reservoir behind it. In fact, it can store about 9.3 trillion gallons of water.
To help people visualize just how much that is, experts often compare it to covering a huge area in water. One famous comparison says:
👉 “The Hoover Dam holds enough water to cover the entire state of Connecticut with 10 feet of water.”
That doesn’t mean the dam is literally connected to Connecticut — it’s just a size comparison. Connecticut is roughly 5,500 square miles, and if you spread out all of Lake Mead’s water evenly over that land, it would be 10 feet deep everywhere.
Apparently, 10 feet of water is more than enough to drown someone who can’t swim (and even strong swimmers would struggle without help).

The Great Wall of China isn’t just a wall — it’s the longest structure ever built by humans. Over centuries, Chinese dynasties built and rebuilt sections to protect their land from invasions. When all the connected walls, trenches, and natural barriers are measured together, the total length is more than 13,000 miles (21,000 km).

🌍 To put that into perspective:

The Earth’s circumference (distance around the planet) is about 24,900 miles (40,000 km).

That means the Great Wall stretches over half the way around the entire planet!

If you started walking the whole length of the Wall, it would take you more than a year of nonstop walking to cover it all.
