REUPLOAD (always remember to proofread your work, everyone! Vote again if you did before!!)

How's it going, Revision Squad?

Hopefully I should wrap up all of my currently planned content for 'Romeo and Juliet' by the end of November or the start of December. Now I need your input to help me to decide which core GCSE text I cover next. The options below are based on my own ideas and the comments and DMs I've received in recent months, and so audience demand has really informed these choices!

I'll be keeping the poll open (or keeping an eye on it, at least) for the next couple of weeks. Vote on the option you would most like to see, and don't forget to share this poll with your friends and classmates if you think their input would also be useful!

Whatever the outcome is, I expect the new series will start in January. That will give me enough time to do some initial research and prep, as well as maybe commissioning some new artwork for the series too!

Take care, gang, and please feel free to write your thoughts in the comments section!

Good morning, Revision Squad!

Following my poll 2 weeks ago (thank you to the 100+ of you who responded!), it seems that there is indeed some interest in me offering some paid tutoring for GCSE English Literature students.

But what format would you like that tutoring to be? 1-to-1 tutoring? Group tutoring? Live lectures? Something else? I've included those four options here with some further details of what I would imagine they would entail. If you have any comments or questions, please feel free to add them as a comment down below!

And just in case the images are too small:

Option A: Individual Tutoring. 1-to-1 tutoring bespoke to you and your needs. Weekly 1-hour-long sessions. Written feedback at least once every two weeks. Online (i.e. Zoom). Most expensive option listed here (approx. £35-£45 per session; price negotiable).

Option B: Group Tutoring. Working in a group of 4-8 students with similar goals and needs. Weekly 1-hour-long group session a 30 minute 1-to-1 every other week (i.e. to go over any questions you have, to provide written feedback, etc.). Written feedback once per fortnight. Online (i.e. Zoom). Mid-price option (£25 per week).

Option C: 'Live Lectures'. A weekly / fortnightly live lecture on Zoom or streamed on YouTube. No capacity limit. Topic determined by audience demand. Lectures would be between 30 and 45 minutes long, and then there would be 15 to 30 minutes for a Q+A afterwards. No written feedback or 1-to-1 time with me. Cheapest option (i.e. £5-£10 per lecture).

Option D: Other. Use this option if none of the others appeal to you, if options appeal to you (comment to let me know which!), or if you have a different suggestion!

Good morning, revision squad! How's it going?

I've been thinking about offering some (paid) private tutoring for GCSE English Literature students. My followers over on Instagram have suggested that there would be some interest in this, but now I thought I'd ask the same question to my lovely YouTube subscribers!

So: if I was going to make myself available to do some private tutoring, would you be interested?

In case you missed it, I just wanted to draw your attention to the collaboration I recently did with the wonderful ‪@JenChan‬! In this mini-series, we discuss how you can use literary theory (in other words: really advanced and specific ways of interpreting a text) to produce top grade analysis for your study of literature during your GCSEs, A Levels, etc.!

If you're studying Macbeth at the moment, then this video is doubly useful, as we analyse an extract from Shakespeare's 'Scottish Play' in these videos. Even if you're not working on that play, though, these skills are still super useful and can be applied to any literary text!

Working with Jen was a great laugh - as I'm sure you can see in these videos - and I strongly recommend you check her channel out (and subscribe to it!) if you haven't done so already.

Hello Revision Squad!

Given that tomorrow is exam results day for many of you, I just wanted to wish you all a massive GOOD LUCK from me! I'm sure that you are feeling a mixture of emotions right now (nerves, excitement, and maybe even apathy?), and I don't blame you; picking up exam results can be quite a big occasion, especially because you have worked towards these grades for so long.

I hope that tomorrow gives you plenty of reasons to celebrate (whether that's because you smashed your targets, are able to progress to your desired next step, or because it means you don't have to study certain subjects ever again) and that your hard work and revision have paid off. Hopefully your English results are fantastic - please feel free to write a comment on this post (or on any of my videos), tag me on Twitter (as some of you have done recently - hi!) or drop me a DM to let me know how well you have done, especially if you think my content has helped you out at all.

If your grades aren't quite what you wanted, please know that it isn't the end of the world. The impact of <you know what> on your education cannot be understated, and we all have off days and various complicating factors in our lives that might mean we underperform in any given moment: we're only human, after all! Regardless of your results, you will have plenty of options (resits, remarks, a different college course, etc., or maybe your grades are good enough for what you want anyway), I am confident. Be sure to speak to your teachers, exams officers, colleges (or whoever is facilitating your next step), etc., and see what those options are. It might require some planning or a bit of work, but I'm sure you will be able to get to wherever it is that you want to - or are supposed to - get to.

Above all else, please remember to be kind tomorrow. Be kind to the educators who have supported you along the way, be kind to each other (success looks different for each and every learner), and be kind to yourself.

Take care!!

I'm not sure how many of you will see this, but... GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! I know loads of you have your English Lit exam today, and I've got my fingers crossed that the papers are kind across the exam boards and that you feel able to write awesome responses to the questions put in front of you.

I also just wanted to say a massive THANK YOU as well. Engagement across the channel has been unreal these last few days (each day since Saturday has been my best day on YT ever in terms of views and watch time). Although that might mean that some of you found my channel right at the last minute, I just sincerely hope that my content has been helpful, reassuring, or motivating!

Feel free to comment on this post later to let me know how your exams went: I genuinely care! And if you have found my content super useful and want to help me out or show your gratitude, please do tell any younger family members, friends in younger years, or your English teachers about my channel - hopefully that will help me to continue to grow and help even more people out in future :)

Good luck, Revision Squad!

So: today is the day! I remember the excruciating nerves I felt when I picked up my GCSE results 11 years ago (yep, I'm that old), and so can totally understand how you might be feeling...

If you're collecting your GCSE results today, I wish you the absolute best of luck. It's been a mad couple of years, and the grades you pick up will be all the more special because you have achieved them in spite of incredibly difficult circumstances. Be proud of yourself for what you have achieved: literally no other cohort of young learners in history have started and finished their GCSEs in the midst of a pandemic. The class of 2021 is completely unique in that regard!

I hope that you have got the grades you need to get you to your next desired step - whether that's A Levels, BTECs, an apprenticeship, and so on. Remember, though, even if things haven't quite gone to plan, you will still have plenty of options: I promise you that the world will not end if you've missed a grade or two here and there! Speak with your school and whoever it may be that is providing your next desired course, and see where you can go from there. It might mean taking a 'sideways' step towards reaching your goals, but that's still progress - trust me!

It's been wonderful to have been a (very, very tiny!) part of your educative journey, and I really do hope that my videos have helped you out with your studies in English Literature over the last two years. If they have, please be sure to recommend my channel to younger people you know (siblings, family friends, neighbours, etc.!) so that I can continue to help young learners and continue to grow as a content creator. Of course, I'd love to hear about your successes too, so please do let me know how your GCSEs (especially English Literature) went!

Remember to be kind to yourself and others today, and enjoy the celebrations!

5000 SUBSCRIBERS!

I am totally lost for words. Never in a million years did I think I would get anywhere near this milestone. I just wanted to say a MASSIVE thank you to all of my wonderful subscribers; I put in an awful lot of work into this channel, and to see that I've been able to help so many of you (especially in what has been a very difficult year) is just such a wonderful feeling.

To celebrate, I want to make a Q+A video! Do you have any burning questions about GCSE English? About my PhD? About my time as a teacher, university life, or just generally about me? Then please head over to my instagram (www.instagram.com/dystopiajunkie/) and submit a question via my story! If you're not on instagram, you can submit your question as a comment on this post 😁 I'll do my best to answer as many as I can, and the video will go up in the next week or so 😊

Once again, thank you all so much!!
