Lara Somogyi
Lara Somogyi is a Los Angeles-based harpist and contemporary classical performer-composer. Known for her work with electronics and pedal fx her work is focused on forging a new artistic identity for the harp. Born and raised in Kauai, Hawaii and New York, Lara is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London, and in 2018 was awarded as an honorary Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM) for her contributions to her field.
Years of sculpting her sound and developing her set of contemporary expressions on the harp led her to write compositions for solo harp and electronics. Finding company and comfort in vast sonic expanses and exploration ushered her to a renewed clarity of expression and identity with the instrument. Her debut full-length album ! was released in 2022 via Mercury KX Records, which Pitchfork praised for "combining the mundane and the fantastical."

the idea of 'désert' emerged from a serendipitous encounter in Joshua Tree. our brief yet profound collaboration unfolded spontaneously— echoing the enigmatic spirit of the location. each piece is entirely improvised—capturing the natural, organic interaction between us, we hope you love listening to it as much as we loved creating it !
as our first single, we present to you "escaliers" (french for stairs), that was born in one of those moments when stars align.

This EP as a whole is meant to reflect on personal choices & also give contemplation on the coding of us; blueprints of our design and the beauty in the interconnected threads.
‘blueprints’ is very personal for me — there’s a deep reflection and liberation on the choices, the patterns, and the moments that make up who I am musically.
Everyday, we’re revising our blueprint // It’s never complete, but that’s what makes it powerful. 🤍

So happy to share my piece ‘instead’ from my upcoming EP blueprints out Sept 6th via @MercuryKX 🤍 I wrote this piece exploring the theme of diverging paths & choices, and how we adapt to them. It explores the feeling of choosing a different route and challenging the predetermined journey outlined in our personal blueprints. Hopefully you can feel the diverging rhythms and patterns, interwoven with drops of extended harp techniques decorating the track’s linear motion and reflecting upon your own blueprint.
